I Think pick six's value isn't in its increased chance at getting sheed. Its in its chance to get one of Aish, Kelly, Scharenberg or billings. I think its a legit possibility that one of those will be available at 6.

To me the most likely to slide is billings. Apparently GWS are keen on Kelly.

Only way i would trade 6 would be if it was to enable us to get 2 high picks eg. Coll 10,11.

That way we could get two of Acres, Sheed, Freeman, Bontempelli, Lennon (or somebody even more highly rated if they slide) who all satisfy needs for me imo.

personally its either pick 10 and 31 or no deal. i would refuse to take pick 11. collingwood knows who we want. the whole world knows we want sheed, so if they keep pick 10 its because they want to draft sheed. theres no difference to pick 10 and 11 if we say we are drafting sheed so why wouldnt they let us pick first. i say keep pick 6 though use the third rounder for yeo and keep pick 28.
Totally agree. Pick 6 is more valuable than Yeo in any deal. Drafts 1 and 2 are spoken for by GWS so we then get the fourth pick of the remaining best youngsters in the country. Great oppurtunity after a year devoid of mid field speed

Agree however, which one of Aish, Scharenberg, Kelly or Billings won the Larke Medal or equivalent? What we need is an inside midfielder with outside game ala Shuey. Scharenberg is an inch short of a KPP, Kelly runs like Gaff, Aish is slight and Billings can be swapped with Garlett who would cost us much less.

From what I've gathered after today, you guys want Sheed and we want Bontempelli. The deal gets West Coast Sheed + Yeo and gets Collingwood Bontempelli + White. It's highly unlikely someone will slide out of the top 5, but I can see why some might be feel speculative about it.

1. Yeo (as promising as he is) is not worth the risk of downgrading 6 to 11.
2. Other sides want top 10 picks come draft time, we want to give up a top 10 pick.
3. If we are remotely thinking that the guy we want at 6 could slide to 11, then we need to ask ourselves why that's the case in the first place!

I guess the dynamic has changed with GWS having pick 2.
Because we are not really sure what they are after.
I reckon they'll go Boyd + Scharenberg but who knows?

i dunno, the draft's not a precise measure of someone's talent/ability to play at the top level/right fit for a team. just because one team has different draft needs and doesn't rate a certain player as high as others doesn't mean they shouldn't be rated. let's not forget that cale morton was pick 4 and sheppard was 7, while kerr was 18, lecras was 37 and embley was 57.

by doing this trade we will pick up a top tier talent with pick 10 or 11 or whatever we're getting. losing 3 or 4 draft slots (NM have already activated their first pick) is hardly the end of the world. + we keep our second rounder and get yeo. if pick 43 alone won't get that deal done, then this is a good play.
True. But the logical conclusion is that Pick 6 represents a greater opportunity to draft an elite midfielder than pick 11. Yes, bargains happen all the time but I would still have preferred we put our efforts into recruiting an elite talent.

If this deal does go ahead, it suggests that the talk of WC having their mind virtually made up on drafting Sheed is accurate, which annoys me.

Not sold on Sheed?
Or West Coast shouldn't have their minds made up now?

A bit of both. Sheed is no doubt a gun prospect but wouldn't have been best available at 6. I would be fine with him at pick 11, but even then I would prefer Acres.

But mostly the second point. It suggests WC would have been looking to take him at pick 6 even though he wouldn't have been best available. I don't think Sheed is the 6th best player in the draft. I don't like the reluctance to look outside of WA. Of course I'm only speculating but the talk is there.

I've heard its Kelly at pick 2 and Melbourne are now certain to take Freeman at pick 9. Makes perfect sense now.

1. Boyd
2. Kelly
3. Aish
4. Scharenberg
5. Billings
6. Collingwood - Bontempelli, Kolodjashnij?
7. Brisbane - Lennon, McCarthy, Kolodjashnij?
8. McDonald
9. Freeman

Sheed doesn't fit anymore, smart play by West Coast.

Sheed could slide to 10-15 range ( probably true value ) , I think WCE know that is his value and trying to tie up Yeo by doing the deal . If Sheed is gone by 10 we go Acres instead , still a pretty good result .

Would rather the potential to draft Aish at 6 than give up the pick to tie up the Yeo deal.

At 6 , I think we are going Sheed not matter who is available but if Sheed is a 10-15 pick then WCE are taking the risk to get Yeo also and we still have # 24 . I think it is a good plan and Acres is a backup pick should all not go well like the 2013 season .

TBH I wouldn't mind Bontempelli for WC.

Are West Coast as WA-centric as we all seem to think they are?
