Hope we keep pick 6 and take the best available like Bontempelli or if someone slides we can pick them,
If Sheeds rated around 15 leave him there we can draft from outside W.A, and why should we help Collingwood out doubt they'd do the same for us, if it was pick 6 for 10 and 11 then that would be fine,
Brisbane can take pick 43 or nothing for Yeo.

But what if he's the type of player we need and the best of his kind available? Do we draft a player we don't exactly need?

I haven't.

People are still being irrational and thinking "unless someone else wants Sheed, why should we?" This is dumb and an overly simple way of looking at it. We need mids, not lanky flankers or runners that might one day play in the middle.

The logic displayed by some would see us draft a KPF just because a team that needs one (say Freo) wants to draft one with a high pick, despite our needs being mids, mids, and more mids.
I'm with you on this Harry. I'm all for the swap. Yeo will be worth the sacrifice, and I'm really looking forward to seeing him in an Eagles jumper. At the end of the day, imo, pick 6 or 10/11 is not going to make a big difference - won't make us contenders over night. Yeo is a really important get for us and fortunately the club realize this. Make it happen.

Is he the best type that we need? if Sheeds the best of what we need we should try and get 10 and 11 for pick 6.
There is the assumption that it's Sheed we are after, there is of course the possiblity the club rates someone better, but he is certainly more the type of player we need (according to what I've read) than many other highly rated players.

Pick 10+11 for 6 is fanciful. Do you honestly believe that is at all a plausable option?

Yeah think the whole world knows we want Sheed, haven't seen much written about Sheed over here im from Vic other than hes one paced and weak on his non preferred foot but makes up for it with endurance and they had him ranked 2nd behind Matt Crouch as the best insider Mid in this years draft. do you have any links about Sheed mate?
Plausable very unlikly but i can dream mate, depends how much Collingwood want their man with Melbourne now having pick 9.

Search for Sheed across this site. Some of the people are actually pretty well informed.

Here is a pretty reasonable start then other phantom drafts: http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/knightmares-2013-phantom-draft.983436/

I'm from Vic too, not much gets passed the rabbit proof fence really.

Edit: Think Crouch was described on this forum as "a better version of Priddis". Might have put people off.

Lot of talk recently about who is coming in, apart from the odd Ash Smith mention very little about possible departures.

After Yeo and the pick swap with Collingwood would that be us done for the period?

I reckon we put in for Gumbleton. Offer pick 40 or 43 I think we have and force Freo to use their second round pick. That way the best Brisbane get is our offer of the third round.

Worst case they call our bluff and we end up with gumbo it frees darling up for some midfield action.

We always bend over to clubs demands and yet time and time again when the shoe is on the other foot we get shafted namely Ebert and Port. Let's get some mongrel!

Regarding The swap of draft picks from 6 to 10 and whatever I am not too phased with as I reckon we'll go with the sheed who would/ should be available at 10. If it is a swap from 6 to 11 I reckon we tell Collinwood to go and get fu#%ed. Even though it is one pick it just signifies their arrogance at the trade table and I reckon it is high time for the Eagles to stand up to them

At 6 , I think we are going Sheed not matter who is available but if Sheed is a 10-15 pick then WCE are taking the risk to get Yeo also and we still have # 24 . I think it is a good plan and Acres is a backup pick should all not go well like the 2013 season .
I know there are rules about draft tampering and that players are not allowed to nominate one club but must be prepared to go elsewhere no matter who drafts them.

This being understood I think the club should come out and say they are committed to getting Sheed, hope they will draft him with pick 10. He's trained at the club and from this and both he and the club would love to turn him into a long term player.

Sheed comes out and describes how fantastic it was to train with the team he supported and as kid and still does. Throw out a line saying he's dreamed of being an Eagles ever since he was 12 years old or some such. And then trundle out the line about knowing he could go elsewhere which is fair enough and he's ok if he has to but just hopes he stays in WA somehow.

Read between the lines Brisbane and Melbourne.;)

The Lions with all the interstate players leaving would be making sure who they draft this year from interstate is at least a reduced risk of leaving due to homesickness.

That leaves Melbourne.

If this deal does go ahead, it suggests that the talk of WC having their mind virtually made up on drafting Sheed is accurate, which annoys me.
I'm not sure I agree with this at all.

If we were really keen on a single player, this sort of deal makes less sense and contains a fair bit of risk.

More likely imo West coast view the players from 5-15 as pretty even and should their first preference be taken the next is at a similar level. This is the only way this deal makes sense for west coast. Again people are getting to hung up on sheed.
