I thought you didn't rate him at all..... Or am I thinking or somebody else

When Bode puts his mind to it he can be handy. He was never a consistently good footballer, and never worth the first round draft pick we traded away to get him.

To me, his head hasn't been in it since 2002 (whether that was all down to Ayres we'll have to see) and he's already hit the wall as far as his talent actually goes - unlike Ladhams who could be some sort of star if his favourite condiment wasn't FIGJAM.

The fact I've got Bode in my first eighteen, to my mind, shows just how little depth we have. If we'd left Bode at Port Adelaide he'd almost certainly be swapping stories with Che Cockatoo-Collins at Centrelink.

That was PATHETIC by the AFL listed player. He deadset pulled out of contest but thing that really got up my nose was THAT incident that we referred to at the time.

What really worried me about it was the fact it wasn't a natural reaction/flinch (which can sometimes happen, but equally inexcusable) - the fact he then feigned for a freekick to cover up his distinct lack of courage suggests he knew exactly what he was doing. Gutless.

And yet most people on these boards would have him starting at HBF

To be fair DT, the guy just game back from having his face reconstructed after the Angry Ant Farmer incident.

That sort of thing was happening well before the fractured eye socket. He has been known to pull out of a few contests long time before Farmer thought he would make a hero of himself.

Care to give us yours?????

NOTE: I am assuming that Stenglein is gone and am not taking into consederation what we will get for him

This is my AFC side assuming all are fit and ready to go for round one next season.

F Scott Welsh M Stevens* Brett Burton
HF Fergus Watts Ian Perrie Mathew Bode
C Tyson Edwards Mark Ricciuto Brent Reilly
HB Graham Johncock Ken McGregor Trent Hentschel
FB Nathan Bassett Ben Rutten Ben Hart

Ruck Mathew Clark Andrew McLeod Simon Goodwin

Interchange: Jason Tourney Marty Mattner
Rhett Biglands Robert Shirley *Luke Jerricho if M Stevens does not stand up, and other changes will be made to keep the balance.

I would like to see the AFC play Watts on a flank to develop him for the future. If Watts and Jericho* (not in starting 18 but has plenty of time) can stand up as young forwards it will allow the club to keep Hentschel, McGregor, Johncock and Rutten down back as a nucleus for the defence over the next 7 or 8 years.

Brent Reilly has to be pushed into the midfield rotation, Graham Johncock is a natural defender so lets not change that by trying to develop him into an on baller

Assuming all fit, Stinger gone, we haven't drafted/recruited/delisted anyone.

(Big "assumption" regarding M. Stevens - I'm surprised he's not in Athens right now.)

:p :p I think the end for Steve is fast approaching. Even if his body does come up, what's the point of keeping him on the list.

His performance in the last Showdown was a disgrace.

If he'd done what he did (twice!) in a suburban/country league game he'd be spending 2005 in the Bs.

I know, about if you apply that theory to Doughty then you have to apply to Goodwin as well. I saw him panic as Pickett was fast approaching.

It is just that in 2002 we seemed to be doing well because second tier players like Bode, Doughty, Begley and even Biglands seemed to be stepping up.

Now I am going to get flak for this side (and it depends on the match ups on the day) but.....

Stiffy_ Welsh_ Hentschel

Burton_ Perrie_ Mcleod

Jericho_ Roo_ Goodwin_

Mattner_ Kenny_ Begley_

Hart_ Rutten_ Basset_

1R Clarke, Edwards , Reilly

Bench: Bode, Doughty, Biglands, Torney

I have Mattner in there over Torney as I think we need to think about 2007/2008 for our push. Also Reilly in the Midfield, but will have to work on his leftside over the pre season (need to start him getting some midfield experience). Rotating Mcleod, Edwards, Bode, Radar and Doughty in the Mid field. A little worried about Jericho but need to see what he can do and would like to see him and Burton overlapping and running opposition off of their feet.

okay, not 100% sure of this setup but happy to discuss

Fair point but while Jericho would add pace he sure as hell would also let his player run wild. He is best running out of the goal square. He looks lost further up the ground especially when the pressure is on.
If he was handled properly it could make him as a player. He would have to learn some disciplin and accountability. I don't think he is tall enough to play a key possition long term, but I can see him tearing up a HBF.

As for not naming Bassett. Like most people I like his spirit but I can not get past his lack of skill.

He's in your 1st 18 is he?

Untradable
Roo

Everyone else has a price.

Delist if unable to trade & not under contract.
Gallagher
Ladhams
Massie
Schuback
Shirley
Skipworth
M. Stevens
S. Stevens
Torney

I will be very surprised if any of the above are still at the club after trading next year.
WHAT!!!! Your joking. Schuback???? Massie???? Torney????

I have never been a big Bassett fan but he looks so much better when he is not taking on guys twice his size. Has been a much improved player since the introduction of Rutten.

Luke JerrichoCHF or CHB he will not even come close to being be tall enough for but Full Forward being 189 190 cms he is going to be tall enough for sure all he will have to do is put some bulk on and keep his speed. Tony Modra was only about 187-188 cms wasn’t he? Fev at Carlton is only like 186cm.

Once Fred was freed up with the inclusion of Rutten he was in out best 5 nearly every week. Bassett will be a much better player in the back pocket than he was at a key position (full back)

lack of skill i wouldnt say that about bassett - maybe pace but he hits his targets on a regular basis and seems always have time to do something with the ball

I would prefer a bigger guy at FF & I like the idea of Jerico running at full pace out of defense, but hey it's not like I pick the side.

As for Bassett. Sure he looked better once Truck came into the side, but I can't find a place in the back 6 for him with a fit Ben Hart available to take the 3rd tall. I have never doubted his heart, but his disposal is a concern.

If we are going to base a game plan out of run from defense then we need to put some guys back there who can run.

Feasible but not convinced that Jericho has the skills to be able to deliver the ball to the forwards in the AFL. He just seems to me that he is a natural forward he can lead and knows where the goals are.

I think we would be a bit short in the forward line Kane. I would give Biglands one more chance in a forward pocket for his height and aggression. I would move Hent out to a flank and say bye, bye to the Birdman...
