Delist

Yep I hate to say it but I think we should delist him at end of the season and cut our losses.

Last time I looked he was signed until end of 2015. So, the options are delist him and pay him out, trade him to another club or put a full pre-season into him with a focus on core/lower body strength and forward positioning in marking contests.

I know what I'd be doing.

So Petrie goes to defence and our forward line consists of Black, Daw and Wood? Jesus Christ. Talk about going the tank.

I would prefer to see something like:

Atley Thompson Firitto

Hansen Petrie McDonald

Harvey Cunnington Gibson

Wells Black/Wood/Brown Zeibell

Thomas Daw (small from interchange list)

Goldstein Swallow Levi NDS

Interchange and forward pocket from: Bastinac Jacobs Dumont Wright Harper? Hine Mullett McKenzie Adams and the two at CHF that don’t make it

then Petrie on our forward line and Firitto having to play tall every froggen week so we can persist with the three towers up forward, that's how I feel this week anyway.

I didnt mention everyone because half our team would disappear, lol, I agree Drew has been largely poor this year, along with Black I might add, and is on his last legs no doubt about it. In a way it would be best for all concerned if we miss the finals again, only then would drastic/required change happen.

I just don't get you most of the time.:(

14 games, crikey you gave Tarrant 20 before cooking him ;)

Go on, what did i say about Tarrant after 20 games?

I prefer not to look at the the 14 games, I look at 2 years at the highest underage level in the land and then the 4 to 5 years in an AFL system and still has less football knowledge than the majority of under 15 kids around the country.

It is still early to delist him. Give him a preseason and all of next year to build on. It wasn't until around the 40-50 game mark and some mentoring from carey when for example Tom Hawkins actually learnt how to use his body and started to show something

apologies (the "you" was a collective BF "you") you took it personally. ;)

Issue is he is a ruckman that should be rested in the forward line, not a forward giving Goldy a chop out.

If that is the case he has the same longevity as Hale and McIntosh have at our club. Unless you can be a dominant ruckman, you are not going to be getting much ruck time from Goldy.

Goldy showed in that first quarter how much more he can bring to the side apart from hit outs. Beautiful disposal by hand and foot (for a ruckman), hard tackler and smart footballer. If he was handled differently and told to adapt his game to play more in bursts he could be joined by another ruck similarly to the Sandilands/Clarke set up.

Which then raises the question, as Goldy's output since taking the bulk load of ruck work has been patchy - does the issue need to be re-addressed?

I don't think it is really a 'just goldy' issue. We don't really have anyone who is of a good enough standard to play more in the ruck, we tend to get annihilated at the clearances whenever he has a break.

But, yeah, if we do have a decent second ruck option I do think we need to push to have him spend more time up forward and work to be able to play to his potential during shorter stints. When Monster was still our #1 ruckman, Goldy was quite handy up forward, even kicked 5 goals once. He is quite good below his knees and despite having 'concrete hands' his size is problematic for most key defenders, especially if he is the #3 forward option.

Agree, although those 5 were at Etihad against the Dees if my memory serves me correctly ;)

Thought we had a better balance though on Saturday night, wouldn't mind a gradual increase in Maj's ruck time and Goldy forward.

Shame though with the reserves bare and Blacky's possible injury and form, we really are struggling to cover Maj at the moment as a forward option.

We don't have someone like Clarke, that is the problem. Clarke is a lot more mobile, he spends time in the Freo midfield, time up forward and some in the ruck.

I do agree, he needs to do more around the ground but we can't ask him to play the minutes he does in the middle and get that output, he will run out of gas by half-time. We also usually get pumped in the middle whenever Goldy comes off. So far we have played Currie, Daw and Brown. Brown seems the least worst option up forward but is the worst in the ruck. Daw just lacks the ability to read the play, doesn't position himself well with his bodywork, doesn't read the play and seems half-arsed when running around the ground. He is meant to be quick and athletic but doesn't show these traits on the footy field.

We just do not have a good second option. McIntosh would have been ideal for the role, he is somewhat useful up forward and in the ruck he is quite handy around the ground, he is just not that great as a ruckman. Whatever the reason, he either didn't want to play that role or we didn't want him.

Perhaps with some development work Brown can be the type of player we need, not sure if Wallace is a realistic option or not. If we don't have someone then we have to look for someone is a suitable to play alongside of Goldy.

So we may as well ship Currie off before Maj, two years older and greater football experience then Maj, yet it is a toss of the coin who gives more in a game.

Probably true, BUT 99.9% of under 15 kids will never be able to do what Daw can. I was a better reader of the play than Daw, didn't get me near a game of VFL/AFL. I remember when Daw first started out he looked lost at VFL level, he's not anymore.

Drew Petrie will turn 33 at the end of season 2015, am unsure of your plans for us? I doubt Petrie will play on, has another 26 H&W games in him.

So that leaves Brown, Tarrant and Curran if we do as you want and delist Majak. good luck with that lot.

I don't think you've thought this through TBH.

I'm comfortable with how he's going, not sure what to expect of a 14 game veteran?

Am unsure why but I feel Daw's dealt with harshly by footy commentators and the like.

He's a better ruck than many Clubs first ruck, he's a better kick than many Club's first ruck, he's a better mark than most Clubs KP's. He's faster than 99% of ruckmen.

Am flabbergasted by this thread. 38 players on our list, short on KP's and you'd just throw him away for reasons I'm not sure of. Plenty of room for a project ruck/ fwd in my most humble ****en opinion.

I've thought it through, he is useless and will be gone by the end of 2015. Only reason not sooner is because our contracts department always add a year or two for shits and giggles.

If Daw is gone at the end of 2015* two things will happen....

He'll get another gig at an AFL Club and we will be renaming the 'Sam Kerridge' award after Daw kicks 12 against us.

Dogs and bones man , dogs and bones.

If Daw has even a half a chance of making it (and I think it's less than half a chance, personally) I think he has to stop working on the weights and get on his bike! He needs to become a mobile wingman/half-forward, the type we were trying to turn the Mow Man into a few years back. He'll never make it as a key forward/ruckman with a waist diameter matching that of an Asian ladyboy, regardless of how many weights he lifts. It's his athleticism that is his point of difference, and it's what he needs to work on IMO, get off the weight bench and RUN, FORREST, RUN!!!! Just my opinion.

Imagine trying to find a match up for a mobile running Maj as opposed to the skinny-waisted CHF who can't read the ball in flight. Either way I don't think he can read the game well enough and the experiment will fail, but I'd like to see the running Maj given a shot.

I think he has struggled with leg injuries and couldn't run the last pre-season, unfortunately, that doesn't allow you to build much other than upper body musckle.

Tas, do you think his best shot at a regular AFL gig is as a tall forward/ruckman, or as a more mobile running/3rd man up type as I described.
