We've drafted plenty of mature players over the past 8 years, they've just largely been rubbish.

Plenty were/are ex-AFL but that adheres to the justification as discussed above. The players highlighted in blue below were drafted from the WAFL. 8 players drafted in 5 of the last 8 drafts.

2012
Hutchings 21y6m
Sinclair 23y2m
Bennell 22y5m

2011
Dick 23y4m

2010
Brennan 20y10m

2009
Strijk 22y1m
Hams 23y2m
Oakley-Nicholls 21y9m

2008
Bedford 20y4m

2007
nil

2006
Maister (Wilkes) 20y8m
Jones 22y5m
Spaanderman 20y9m

2005
Armstrong 21y10m
Priddis 20y8m
Embley 20y

I was referring to mature solid established footballers from which your list would number 4- Strijk, Hams, Priddis & Jones. Note - I exclude Wilkes as he was hardly established at the time. All the rest were kids with little to no senior football experience. Note - I exclude the 2011 & 2012 drafts because I acknowledged in a later post that WC had 'fallen into line' by then, but by then had missed getting a march on the rest of the comp.

The players whose names were raised at the time had probably played 100+ games & several had represented their state. As to young Embley - the decision to draft him still bewilders me.

I have liked what I have seen from Ledger in limited viewing. Quick and clean. Unlike most of our smalls. Saints fans have been crying out for him to get more games this year. I would definitely consider him as a rookie.

I'd be interested in Ledger.

I was shocked when he got the chop actually. Haven't seen huge amounts of him, but he certainly had a crack. Agree with TOA, would love to Rookie him.

edit. Some on the saints board don't rate his skills at all.

Why the hell wouldn't the dwarf burners want to at least get something for him???????? Bizzaire!
Certainly one of the stranger ones I've seen. Maybe it's a spin his manager has put on the delisting? Either way, hope we have a look at him. Could do a lot worse and will provide reasonable depth if nothing else.

A bit of desktop research:

An elusive and strong-bodied midfielder, Ledger was drafted with pick number 59 in the 2010 AFL National Draft.

While he played just four games in 2012, Ledger’s VFL form was excellent throughout the year, his work-rate improving steadily as the season wore on.

Ledger’s strengths rest with his foot skills and pace around the contest and as he approaches his third year on the Saints list, will be intent on cementing a spot in the seniors as early as possible.

Can I ask why you pass on him. Not even worth a rookie? (If we are lucky enough to be able to rookie him!

Too small, not hard enough, and i really haven't seen him use his so called 'pace' at all.

A rookie spot perhaps, but that's all. Just my opinion.
