Delisting mega thread 2024!!

TT, Greenwood, Shiels, Lazz, Free and CCJ, Sleevo could all go. Taylor would have to improve significantly imo. Cooper might be in trouble. Be harsh on Drury to sack him after doing his knee but that happened to Jack Mahony.

I'd be keeping Pink because he can chop out in the ruck and swing forward or back and has made a structural difference. I like his forward pressure too. Give him a year. Probably keep George too. RHJ is playing for his spot on the list over the rest of the season.

Really tho the AFL needs to increase list sizes, even with Tassie coming in.

You have to go back to 2018 to have a draft that went deep enough to get to the picks Larkey and Zerri were taken at. ie one year after X and two after souv. Both are easily in the top five for their position in the comp and genuinely in discussion for top three. Could both be ranked top of the comp for their position at some point in the next three seasons if we improve the way we should. (Tho Larkey will probably stay around 3-5.)
Drury done his knee?

The players we have out of contract have mostly all lifted recently, and for the first time in a while there's a genuine shortage of players to delist.

Our last two weeks are also making it look likely that we could lose our additional spots on the rookie list.

If we cut back to five rookies, we already have Payne, Teakle, and Dawson contracted, so that's two spots left for Shiels, RHJ, Free, Sellers, Maley, Drury, and our top pick in the rookie draft. Seeing that list the club might be very tempted to pass in the rookie draft if Shiels has one more year left in him, although we could go with six rookie spots in that scenario.

The option to immediately LTI Brayden George creates another rookie spot, but he would be healthy to play in the back third of the season so you'd understand if the club doesn't go that route.

Greenwood and Thomas are the only players certain to exit from the senior list, as Taylor and Phillips have both played themselves into becoming must-keep players. Because of this situation I think it's near-certain that we're also now looking at delisting Lazzaro.

As a minimum the club would look to move on from Greenwood, Thomas, Lazzaro, Free, RHJ, Drury, and Sellers. Which allows the club to bring in the minimum of three through the ND.

Any additional players coming in would have to come from names like Cooper Harvey or Toby Pink being delisted, which be harsh in both instances.

There's also the chance we lose players we'd prefer to keep in Zurhaar, Scott, and Phillips, and the club might also want to be creative with names like Nyuon and Stephenson.

I would be happily surprised if Pink or Teakle turn out to be anything more than stop gaps. But, their limitations notwithstanding, at least they've demonstrated the capacity to hold team structures and carry out specific roles within that structure. I've never seen CCJ demonstrate that.

Can't agree more. People are misremembering how slow CCJ can be once the ball goes to ground.

Pink is only a stop gap, but some of his pressure after a marking contest, like tackles or getting to his feet to mark a man on the spread, is exactly what we missed while CCJ baby giraffed back to his feet.

Pink has made more desperate tackles this year than CCJ has made in his career...

First thing is first tough, I'd be dropping George back to the rookie list to free up a senior list spot.
You're risking it by delisting and making him a free agent for life. Especially a young talent like George. He would be pinched.

Its the absence makes the heart fonder scenario, reaing the tt thread he is the 2nd coming of roo matera.

Does anyone know whether Kal Dawson has to be upgraded this year? I thought the rule was a maximum of three years on the rookie list and he will exceed this halfway through next season.

Biggie and CCJ would both need to be paid out because they arent OOC until next year.

I suspect the list inclusions will to some extent determine who gets the chop.

eg. There's no point delisting Sellers and Maley if you can't replace them with better key forward prospects.
CCJ delist and Rookie as for a big man doing the injury to the Achilles he won’t back to Round 5/6 then would need a month in VFL keep him in VFL takes Free spot in Ruck with Goad as back up.
As for AFL Xerri Ruck Teakle back up at this stage then late next season look at Goad to play a game or 2 with 2026 being the year he is Xerri partner with Teakle to be back up.

I think he is okay for another year. I recall the AFL tweaking that ruling recently, but I can't find confirmation anywhere.

Cooper Sharman and Max Heath from the previous MSD are still on the rookie list.

Probably the least of our worries. Let's see him get a single game at AFL level before we start worrying about him getting pinched. He is a long long way away from even achieving that.

I don't think the club should be worrying about that.

We will have a high pick in the rookie draft and he's realistically not likely to be in AFL consideration until 2026.

If he moves as a RFA after the faith the club has shown, that can be discussed at the time.

Personally I want to see the minimum about of list changes possible. Alot will depend on What our out of contract players do, but in a prefect world, No losses to FA, pick 3 at the draft and perhaps 1 in via FA/OOC

Yeah probably has to be
I’d be happy just taking our first and second pick and upgrading Dawson

Maybe trade in 1 player

Thus only needing 4 senior list spots (delist pink, shiels, greenwood plus trade Scott)

I remember reading that mid season prospects were given an extra year.

It wouldn't shock me if we only took two at the draft, but I think three is more likely. Six weeks ago it looked like we would be cutting much harder, but a lot of players on the fringe have stepped up and will likely get another year.

Other than kicking a few on some chump out at frankstone i seriousely dont see where the ccj promise comes from. Bloke has a footy iq arguably slightly better than biggy, actually clogs the fwd line and cant bring if down for othere more mobile players and actually has no awareness. I work with a couple of tiggers fans and they still laugh out loud when recalling when we were hoodwinked into taking him.

And all this without even taking into effect potential degradation from the Achilles injury. On exposed form teakle has him in spades.
I don’t disagree with anything you’ve said. All I’ll say is, in my view, none of Pink, Teakle or CCJ will be part of our successful team (the successful team we hope to be) in the future - based on their present output. Of the three, I think CCJ is the only one who might be able to turn it around - I am not holding my breath, though. Ultimately, we’re most likely going to have to bring in somebody better.

And then there is biggie whos ceiling is likely below all 3. Think he has another year to run but sheesh he would want to develop. Laz has had ample time to show he doesnt have any higher ceiling. Poor bugger tries his ass of though.

Iam more concerned about his footy iq.
Yeah. I can't decide if its timidity of not getting the game.

He's like Maj, came here from overseas so i dunno how long he's actually played for. If its only a few years then he might show improvement in that area over a couple of years.

The timing is the issue, mason cox for example adapted fine. Cant just have players clogging the list on account they may click. Edwards was another that showed nothing in years.
