Thought you guys had a steal in Lonergan last year. Don't know what happened to this bloke..

news of his retirement came just today to my knowledge so thats the only suprise of the culls. obv didn't want to just play VFL next year as he'd only come in for injuries being on a rookie list and Petterd will be the one promoted

I rated derickx, it looked to me like he was a good young ruckman on the up (apart from injuries) but obviously Hardwick doesnt think so, anyone think he is worth a punt as a rookie?

Correct me if i'm wrong, but do we have a bit of $$$ lying around now?
These are only guesses, as I have no clue about current contracts but:

McGuane - $350k
Nahas - $350k
Derickx - $200k
White - $350k
Tuck - $300k

That's roughly $1.5 million spare in the salary. Hampson is on about $250k, Pettard will be offered a new contract on about $300k... That still leaves about $1 million in the salary cap.

If that's correct, perhaps we're getting ready to make a move for a high-profile F.A next year.

your sums should be (difference between the replacement salary for the games the replacements and the replacement games for these 5 players play) which is net ~ few hundred k. versus ~1.5 mill.

Not like we have money to burn, and 1.5mill net, to bid for a Franklin or Tippet, how many t's in Tippett?

we need Ivan Maric in the 2011 AA form, and no injuries. enough options in the starting 21 with Hampson and Vickery for a chop out.

I thought veterens were paid more thank 7 or 8 hundred thousand dollars?

the thing is, only half the salary is in the official cap.

so, it is in the interests of the team, mostly teams in the top 6 who top out their cap every year, to pay luke hodge and sam mitchell 1.2 mill each, and only half goes in the cap.

what will happen is, mitchell/hodge, will sign a contract, from years, 7,8,9,10,11 for 4 million. and they will get 500k,550k,600k, then in year 10 1.15mill, and 1.2mill, and in those 4th and 5th years, they only count for 575k and 600k in the cap.

are you allowed to have two veterans? or just one?

does not really work for a good solid champion like brad sewell at 500k for his long term market value.

They got rid of counting half the salary towards the cap. Now its 112k saving and you can have as many veterans as you like so as long as they have played 10 seasons.

My guess is:

Pick 12: Player... duh
Pick 50: Player
Pick 68: Ricky Petterd (Rookie Elevation)

Delisted Free Agent: Matt Thomas (as much as I don't like it, will probably happen now that Sam Lonergan is gone along with Tucky)

2 rookies

Done.

Matt has been offered a rookie spot on our list, and the Giants have offered him a senior list spot. With family in Melbourne I expect that he'll take the rookie spot offered at Richmond and bust his gut waiting for an opportunity.

No, ten years of service to a single club.

Newman
Foley
Jackson

We will get ~$112,000 per player next season.

Can anyone quickly summarise the new rules for vet list, as it used to be that teams would only put players on large deals on the list so they save more hence why Richmond had no veterans this year and the last few years?

Edit: Disregard, saw it got answered while I was carefully wording my question so as to not look like a complete idiot

Rather go with the Maverick TBH.

His papers were stamped when he dropped the easiest of chest marks against GC in 2012
