I think your missing the point, every person and there dog knows that bigs take longer to hit there straps and especially Rucks, Coaches know this that's why they persist with them through the good and the bad.

Anyway enough arguing about this, as we won't ever see eye to eye on most things, I just get the feeling though that you are playing the negative type all the time so when something happens you can say I told you so.

Just quickly though who do you "rate" as a ruckmen, and what is your time frame in giving them to show there worth?
_______________________

You're right Rucks take time. I think ours have very good potential.

Read somewhere that Jamar was borderline as to being delisted at the end of 2009. Next year he's all Australian.

yep as many as ten.

mcguane - a spud of the highest order. oh i see you mentioned him already.
thursfield - a player whos so highly rated no one else wants him.
connors - everyones love child atm. if he continues to make shocking decisions and butcher the ball on a regular basis next yr he will be in the gun.
graham - one word hack.
jackson - see connors. except hes done it for 7 yrs.
king - another of the try hards who lacks the polish for the role. a puny 70kg tough man its laughable.
nahas - lol that we gave him an extension. how lacking is he.
rance - another poor yr next yr with poor skills lack of smarts and no presence in the air and gonski for me.
tuck - we will see, really has been a part of a long term problem.
white - dud.
i coul;d add a few others who i dont rate and not mentioned the rookies. the above represent ordinariness and even if we make finals i would be looking toi find better than that lot.
McGuane will only leave if traded, has another 3 years to go on a contract.
Thursfield will be lucky to hang around, think he'll be spending a lot of time wearing Coburg colors.
Connors unlikely to happen, would need to stuff up again with regards off field behaviour.
Graham unless we can find another 1-2 ruckmen to take over he'll be around as well.
Jackson possible trade bait, but I expect him to also be here.
King saved his bacon with a alright second half to this season would need to step up again if he wants to see 2012.
Nahas the only thing that would save him IMO is 5kg of muscle and at least 30 goals from a pocket.
Rance will need to have a breakout year if he wants to hang around. 4 years on the list and not securing a spot in the 22 can't be good.
Tuck signed a 2 year deal IIRC so won't be going next year.
White like King needs to really step up and perform every week not just once every 3 weeks.

Unfortunately Claws I don't think you're going to get your wish.

I think Thursfield will be given another chance to cement his spot. Mcguane might move forward as they toiled with the idea late in the season.

McGuane wont be going anywhere then. Not a single club showed ANY interest in him at trade week.

Nahas needs to pull his finger out and do more than the absolute bare minimum. by all reports should hang out with o'reilly to see what true dedication to being an AFL player is.

Farewell Jordie Mac.

You will be missed.

From all at the MFC.
Tanker.

Not here to debate this old chestnut.

I'm here to celebrate Jordie's career. Without his precision, long range shots on goal and calmness under pressure, Melbourne would only have one up and coming young gun superstar, not two. :thumbsu:
Celebrating losing. Culture.

You still missed the best player anyway. :thumbsu: I'll take Martin and Cotchin ahead of Trengove and Scully any day. And Riewoldt ahead of Watts. Cheers tanker.:thumbsu:

haha ur club can also be happy that they had TWO opportunities to pick dusty! what a shame. hows the dynasty coming along?
And FOUR opportunities to pick Benny Griffiths, FIVE to pick David Astbury and SIX to pick Troy Taylor.

Imagine barracking for the opposition. Still, no surprise from a club that voted itself out of existence, only to be rejected.

Please, Spirit of 39 (was that your last flag? Or is it the number of your favourite player - "Go Number 39, jolly good show, what!") stop polluting our board with your filthy tanking scumbag loser culture. Get back to the Deeees board where you can safely hope your team loses.

next year realisticaly the following could be gone
mcguane ............... has to become the general of the backline or offer more up foward to keep his place

Why does McGuanne need to be a general of the back line? Surely there always a role for a player who has great closing speed, can attack the contest and take on talls and mid forwards. I am sure you will find his efficiency is pretty good, and his decision making looks good on TV - but that's the hardest thing to read about his game for mine. He is a disciplined player as well.

Exactly THE CLUB rates him and obviously rate him more then you do and I will go with there opinion over yours.

Connors - Doesn't utterly butcher the ball all the time, sure he turns it over sometimes trying to create play but nothing that can't be fixed with a bit more composure and experience.

Jackson - I hope you do realize that a run with player is a Tagger yes? and that is what Jackson is a Tagger, every club has them and every club needs them, I suggest you go over some of his games again because from the games I watched (all of them) he regularly hit targets 40+ meters nowhere near as bad as you have in your mind it is.

Graham - Exactly hes 23, you yourself say Talls need time to come on and they need alot more time then a small, so why right off Graham so early in his career? Jamar just had his best season being a AA ruck, yet he was on the verge of being delisted just last year.

You seriously have to stop being so negative all the time, being so negative all the time doesn't allow you to see the good things these players do on a regular basis, sure they stuff up like all players do but there upside far outweighs there downside.

And just some food for thought for you.

Here is a comparison of Graham vs Jamar at same age

Graham
Ave Disposals 10.7
Ave Marks per game 3.1
Ave Tackles per game 3.4
Ave HITOUTS per game 19.2

Jamar
Ave Disposals per game 4.4
Ave Marks per game 2.3
Ave Tackles per game 1.1
Ave HITOUTS per game 10.2

Quite clear who is the better ruckmen at the same age, don't be so quick to right off a player so early.

:thumbsu: Yeah i made the point of jamar being a 'so called dud' 3 years ago. I get very annoyed with supporters who sit on their fat ass and call reasonable players rubbish. These people are wanting superstars in every spot on the ground. Ruckman take a while. I laugh at our supporters who bash Mcguane. Over the last 3 seasons he's had 5 goals kicked on him about 3 times only. He's a very good stopper and his kicking is fine, but under pressure he isn't the most composed player. Compare him to Thomson from North. He regularly has 5 goals or more kicked on him. Mcguane is quite comfortably a better defender

so the club rate mcguane does that make them automatically right.

Let's see now. Wallace and his band of merry men rated McGuane highly.

Beavise and his Boys rate McGuane.

That's two sets of coaching departments who rate McGuane.

If I had to bet my house on who is right, two sets of coaching departments or a some tosser who refuses to see the positives in any player he's labelled a "dud", I know when my money would go.

But keep calling everyone a dud. You'll always have a chance to say "i told you so" that way.

McG's value will become clearer as the new game plan becomes more settled. His mongrel and dash will be an important component of counter-attacking from defence.

"Beef" will never be everyone's favourite. But he looks very much like being the ruck work horse we have so badly needed. And he can hurt when resting forward.

SC - your posts are constantly negative and are as boring as bat shit.
Do you ever have anything positive to say?

and despite griffiths dodgy shoulder he still played more games than gysberts, tapscott, gawn and fitzpatrick combined.

missed jack riewoldt by 1 pick as well i believe. now they have no key forward.

You get bagged quite often on this forum for over rating players, but your assessment of McGuane is spot on I reckon. Easily the most unfairly maligned RFC player on this board. No superstar but certainly not a spud.

Another thing. Why does Rance get bashed in here? He's only played about 15 games and i've been happy with pretty much every game he's played. Has alot of promise and he is improving his overhead marking

I'm no Rance basher but I'm far from being sold, a poster here made this point about him previously about some of the key position blokes from the 06 draft coming on this year - JR, Nathan Brown, Ben Reid, Frawley.

Rance (and Gourdis) were both taken in 07, hopefully next year they really cement their spot in the 22.

I don't overrate any player. I just give them the right amount of time to prove themselves rather than write them off after 5 minutes

claw just a quick question, how many games do you actually watch live every year & how many games on television.

probably average about 5 or 6 a yr live. its enough to confirm most things for me. good excuses to go as most of the family are either in melb or hobart.i see our games on the box one way or another.

see a bit of the dockers eagles and other teams as well. as mates are always going to their games and i usually get a free ride when someone misses.

used to spend a lot of time with a few mates watching colts and east freo thats gone by the wayside for now.

i get to about 12-15 games a year usually 5-6 are in a corperate box(thanks to bata) & the rest at ground level. but would probably go to about 15 training sessions aswell. god i would hate to live in perth and not be able to see my team on a regular basis.

12. Meyer (17 games) - didn't crack the senior side much, never showed anything, traded away for basically nothing.
16. Pattison (59 games) - all heart but never had much talent, traded away for not much.

Despite the fact that we pissed these two gifted draft picks up against the wall, I still stand by my agreement at the time with the decision to trade them for Ottens. It was sound trading IMO.

Picks 12 and 16 for a bloke that, admittedly dragged the Cats over the line in a small number of important matches, but would've frustrated the bejesus out of us Tiger faithfull by his continual intimate connection with the medical rooms.

Shame we hadn't used these two prime picks more wisely.

Geez hindsight's a bitch...

2009 - We give port pick #42 for Adam Thompson. they use the pick for Mitch Banner. PORT WIN.

2008 - We use pick 58 to pick up Tom Hislop, who was delisted from Essendon after knocking back a one-year deal. Players who were drafted after him in that draft included; Rohan Bail (Melb), Tim Ruffles (Freo), Will Young (Ade) & Jason Davenport (Geel), who have all shown signs at their respective clubs. HISLOP WINS.

2007 - We give the Dogs pick #19 for Jordan McMahon. They use the pick to draft Callan Ward. McMahon also cost us picks by kicking that winning goal after the siren against Melbourne in 2009. DOGS WIN.

2004 -We use pick #20 to get Dean Polo. Players who went after pick #20 in that draft include; Nathan Van Berlo (ADE), Mark LeCras (WCE), Chris Knights (ADE) & Matthew Egan (GEEL). 2004 proves to be a horror draft for us, Deledio aside, where we recruit Richard Tambling (4), Danny Meyer (12), Adam Pattinson (16), Luke McGaune (36), Dean Limbach (52), Mark Graham (65) & Trent Knobel (PDS #1). OTHER CLUBS WIN.

Would love a DeLorian right now...
