Delistings, any news?

Anyone heard anything on any delistings from the club as yet? I see the Saints & WB have released some players earlier in the day.

I expect the club to take a bit longer, as they'll no doubt still be trying to negotiate any out of contract players we want to keep down a bit. (like, for example, any key defenders that may be out of contract just now)

If we don't promote anyone from the rookie list, do we even have to delist? We traded 3 away, two retired, picked up two in trading, leaving 3 places on the list (now 2 with Brett Ebert picked up as our Rd 3 selection).

The article said we need at least one.
Doesn't Ebert count as a pick? If he does then surely we are not compelled to delist any more.

We aren't required to delist anyone extra, unless we're not shifting a player to fill Mead's spot on the veteran's list. We probably will though.

Pretty sure that the Thrust signed for two years at the end of last year. Meaning he is contracted for 2002 & 2003.

Wakes i've heard before is out of contract but i doubt that means that much.

Perhaps they are putting so pressure on Bassett or Morgan if indeed they are out of contract may be able to resign them a little cheaper if they get a bit nervous about being cut.

When does that have to be done, i guess it would need to be done before tomorrow if someone isn't going to get cut.

From what i can see we have to cut our main list to 35. AT the moment it is at 36. 34 from last year, down from 38 by M Stevens, French, Lockwood & Brooks plus two recruits (Pickett & Cochrane).
Meaning one either needs to get cut or put on the veteran's list which has currently one spot available.

The decision to pick Ebert doesn't change anything.

The media are saying that we need to cut at least two and that will be done tomorrow, obviously this will increase if we add any rookies. McKenzie was rumoured to be elevated to the senior list.

Seems everyone has different info, we'll have to wait til tomorrow to see who (if any) gets the arse.

Surely the only guys under pressure would be D Murray, Koula, Bassett and maybe Che.

What time does the announcement have to come by?

I doubt that Che will be delisted, he was part of our finals team so he must have still been highly regarded for him to play and he still has one year left on his contract.

I also believe Koula has a year to run on his contract however you would think it would be a lot easier to cover the cost of Koula rather than Che.

Channel 9 just reported that up to 8 players could be delisted tomorrow and that Derek Murray has already been cut.

Also they said that Poults who is currently out of contract could feature amongst the delistings.

Channel 9 sound like they have all gone to Robbie Popplestone school of Footy News!

Up to 8! I'm looking at our list on the record and with M Stevens gone I'm having a hard time trying to find 8 who even deserve to be considered for delisting. Who do Channel 9 think we are, Collingwood?

Up to 8!!!!!! Im seriously struggling to find 8 names on our list to delist.

Derek Murray - thats probably a given
Scott Bassett - I wouldnt think so
Chris Hall - I would bloody well hope not
Koula - Its possible
Morgan - Doubtful
Allan Murray - I wouldnt think so
CCC - more than possible


I can only come up with 7 that might be in slight danger. I would be unhappy if we dumped more than two.

Played every game, was a solid performer in the majority. He had one bad game which was the Collingwood final. Has any player in history been delisted after playing every game and improving from a fringe player with dodgy skills to a solid performer with good skills?

Delisting 8 players would put us way, way beyond that....there would be no reason to delist and redraft in such a scenario.

I don't think delisting Poults and then expecting to pick him up would work this time. We wouldn't use picks 8 or 18 for a stunt like that and our third round is for Brett Ebert so there's a good chance some other team would get him.

In all seriousness I don't think we will delist 8 either but could it be that we are now having some salary cap issues.

Byron Pickett would not have come cheaply and if we still have to sign the likes of Darryl Wakelin and others it maybe a case where we might need to delist someone like Poults.

With Pickett in the side now it must push the need for having Poults in the side back a little now.

I dont think that we will delist 8 players because of the strength of our remaining list. I dont think we will delist just one player either, but the scenario of picking players we delist is possible.

Why would we pick players we delist? Why wouldn't we just keep them? The reason why we had to re-draft Poulton instead of keeping him last year wouldn't apply if we delisted eight players this year.

Just a minute, aren't the people who touted this idea the same ones who came up with the move of Andrew Embley to Port? And also thought up about 6 trades for us? We've never delisted all that many players so why would we suddenly delist twice as many as any other year?
The media always get it wrong. The only reason they didn't get the Cows delistings wrong was that Adelaide did them nearly straight after the draft.
