Only two rounds to go until Finals so you would assume it is too late for someone (Chris Egan:D) to put in a couple of sterling performances and save their spot on the list. Nominate the favourites to get the chop at the end of the season that aren't playing in the senior side - I don't want another Toovey or O'Bree bashing thread. In terms of retirements Burns is a monty to play on and Wakelin has earned another year if he wants it. I would also give Presti another season as he should have no injuries woes heading into 2009 and would be ideal to split time in defence with Wakelin and insurance in case Nathan Brown struggles in his 2nd year similar to Goldsack this season.

My choices:

DELIST
Lonie
Holland
Cox
Egan
Iles
Casey-Leigh (r)

PROMOTE
Wellingham
Macaffer

ON NOTICE FOR 2009
Rusling - Can't afford another injured plagued season.
Didak - Has had two chances, one more stuff up and he is out.
R.Shaw - Can't afford to regress after a pretty good 2008.
Johnson - Must bounce back and return to form.
Stanley - Only a pretty good 2nd half of the year in the VFL has saved him from the chop this year. Must find away to breakthrough in the senior side as 2009 will be his fourth year at the club.
Cook - As above, in the same boat as Stanley.
Dick - Will be given some leeway given he is coming off a knee reco but can't afford to show a lack of intensity that Egan has shown this season.
Toovey - Needs to keep improving in order to keep his defensive stopper role.
Bryan - Will only be kept on the list as an insurance policy in case of injuries given the lack of ruckman on the list.

De-List:
Iiles
Holland
Egan
Holland
Lonie

Maybe De-List:
Toovey
Cox
Bryan

a bit harsh on Casey-Leigh, its his first year on the list!
give the kid a chance!

Pretty accurate Peter, well done (and no idiots reckoning OBree leaves with no replacement!). I think Cox may stay though purely because of size as a depth type player as Iles, Stanley and Cook are all similar and not up to AFL IMO.

As far as your on notices go-
R Shaw - is gone from my sources (traded either as sweetener or high draft pick)
Didak - will be gone as long as he lands Kerr/Brown etc. Cant lie to eddy especially after his bad press on incident 1. If he stays, B Johnson wont
Johnson - will only stay if didak goes, or offered as sweetener

I'd keep Casey-Leigh, especially as he's on the rookie list, which is extended to six for this year and next.

Of those taking up senior spots, in the VFL, if it were up to me; Egan, Cox and Lonie should all be traded and Holland's probably done. If Presti is iffy to have a decent season next year due to injury, we should probably cut our losses there too. Sorry Presti. :( Query over Ben Johnson, the club would know better than I whether his attitude has hit the skids.

I think Iles, if he's not going to get a chance at senior level, should be moved on. However if he's in line to get a chance, I'd support retaining him or delisting/rookieing him.

As requested I won't mention any names of players in the seniors currently, but there's one there I'd trade, and another I'd trade/delist.

Bullshit!!! You seen Stanners play??? It is a crock of shit that he hasn't been in the ones for a while now.

Exactly my point Wicksy - Not AFL standard, although i think he deserves more of a chance than iles and cook.

An example - northern bullants have been at the top of the ladder in previous years when Carlton struggled for 5 years. They had a list of great VFL players that brought them wooden spoons in the AFL. You need classy players, not great honest triers.

This puzzles me!
I said Maybe because if we can get another Ruckman in Trade Period.

Like for Example Brandon Lade, Then I would Trade or Even De-List Bryan

In reality we only have to free up three spaces,(Cousins, Kerr, Warnock.) the others would make room for a few more development players.
I definitely would not de-list Bryan as he is just starting to look good in the ruck and around the ground. If we could get Warnock we would be looking at a formidable ruck combination. How do you think he would go as a defender and cover throw-ins in defence?

If Rhyce Shaw goes it will only be for "political" reasons as his onfield form has been excellent. It would be ironic if he were the only one to lose from the incident and would smack of hypocrisy.

Agree, anyone who says he isn't AFL standard needs to stop thinking of him as a backman and remember he is a midfielder.

Like to see how Sam Mitchell would go manning Medhurst up in our forward line, dare say u would see a similar result to that of Stanley's on Russell Robinson.

At AFL level he has either been played out of position or not given suffiecent game time.

Amen - Bit hard when you never played that roll before

RETIRE:
Rocca: That's it for Rocca; had his day. Getting rid of him would free up alot of salary cap space and potentially J Brown might fill his void. If we don't get Brown, would make space for players like Dawes, Reid and Co.
Wakelin: Terrific servant for the club; one of the best pick ups of the millennium, cannot ask for more. Would have already retired if Clement went around again. Well Done Wakes!
Burns: Would love him to go one again, but I don't think his body can, and it would be better for a terrific clubman like himself to leave whilst on top!

DELIST:
Lonie: Once was one of my favourites, however since he has changed his number to 3, he has gone backwards a million miles an hour. Not up to AFL standard anymore.
Egan: Not interested in the club, so why should we be interested in him. Has talent, but is way too soft.
Toovey: Will never be good, so cut your losses.
Holland: Can't believe he is still on our list; waste of salary cap space.

TRADE:
R Shaw: The turnover specialist, can't believe some supporters think he is valuable to the team. Would trade for a 4th round pick upwards. If we were smart, I would offer a team our 3rd rounder and him for a high 2nd rounder. The sooner we get him off our list, the sooner the turnovers will drop.
Fraser: One good game in every 5 is not good enough. If he was really that good, he would be the walk up captain by now; wouldn't he? Is too soft, falls over too often, smashed in hitouts all the time, and is outmarked by smaller opponents too often. If we can trade him for a late 1st rounder (like 10+), would do it in an instant.

Opinions Please?

Dave lade and white are both in their 30s, if we were to delist bryan we would try for a ruckman like warnock, seeing as we also want kerr or brown that would mean no drafting at all.

Bryan will stay on the list

These people that want to delist Bryan crack me up!

Only last Friday night Fraser was taken out of the ruck every time Lade went to the ruck, because Fraser was getting absolutely smashed in the ruck and couldnt even provide a decent contest with Lade, who mind you has been playing seconds for a few weeks and Bryan was moved onto Lade to provide a real contest... Which he did.

So if we're going to trade Bryan, maybe we should trade Fraser and Wood as well. Bryan is the best in the ruck contest out of the 3 of them and people want him traded? Absolute "sheep mentality".

My two cents:

Delist or Trade (if there are any takers)
Iles (McCarthy and Wellingham have gone past him)
Lonie
Egan (Thomas, Medhurst, Dick and Macaffer will be preferred)
Cox
One of R.Shaw or B.Johnson

Retire
Wakelin (just don't think he will go on)
Holland

Promote
Wellingham
Macaffer

That gives us 5 picks in the draft depending on if we trade or not. 4 live picks plus Scott Reed.

Wakelin and Rocca will both play on in 2009 if MM supports them in doing so. I'm as certain of this as anyone could possibly be without knowing either of them personally. Wakelin has said in newspaper interviews that he would play until his 60's if he was able.

Trying to be brief as possible

Egan
Lonie
Holland
Iles

Gone

Presti retired

Wakes and Rocca to stay on.

As for the Stanley discussion as has been said it's hard to judge whether he is up to afl standard when he has not been used to his strengths at AFL level. His strength is clearly at stoppages and in the clearances. Something that is going to very valuable to us when O'Bree and Wakes are gone. He has recentally improved his fitness and got a bit smarter at getting the cheap kicks to go with his clearance work. That said you can't judge his AFL work when his playing out of position and you can't be sure his VFL dominance in the clearances will translate to AFL level.

Also players like him who are very much stoppage specialist tend to take a bit longer to come on. Players like Mitchell, Harris, Cross have been late finds who have come good a bit older. Even Bartel took a while to be really strong at AFL level. I think this comes down to the fact that to play as the stoppage specialist type player you need the fitness and hardend body to play midfield and bullock your way around stoppages. Not many draftees would have both. Stanley has working on both areas heaps and I really do think he will at least be a good clearance player at AFL level

Prestigiacomo has to go.

Been a good servant, however has not played for so long, then coming back at his age after this absence...not sure he will be up to the standard. He was already slow, and I can't see who'd we play him on in future... we need more agile and quick backs to play on the better fowards going around.

A lot of rule changes making it harder for backmen since then too and we have to be lookin fowards. As much as I love him I think he should and will bow out gracefully this year.

Delist
Iles
Egan
Holland
Lonie
Toovey
Stanley

Retire
Presti

Trade
Cox and Egan or else delist
3/4 round draft picks for-
Johnson
R Shaw
(Or else keep if no suitable deal)

In
Wellingham
MacCaffer
Reed

Therefore by my calculations (which are probably wrong!) we will have 4 open spots on the senoir list.(not sure how many we are allowed?)

IMO we need at least 4/5 picks in the draft and aim for players ala Reily/Prismall/Cousins

So some might be unlucky to get delisted...
