Considering we have re-signed Eddy and traded for Ray, we now have 38 players on our senior list, which is exactly the same as when the season ended. Harvey & Gehrig out, Eddy and Ray in (with Connors and Maguire back to senior list status).

We need to delist at least three more players in order to satisfy minimum draft requirements.

L Fisher
M Ferguson
C Gardiner - gone

This would still leave us with Attard and McQualter outside the senior 38. While we could open up a slot at the expense of a rookie by moving Hudghton from within the 38 to outside the 38, this will still leave us plenty short of what we need to fulfill RL & AF's statements about bringing in six kids, assuming they mean through the National Draft and not through both the National Draft and the Rookie Draft.

And then there is Ben Cousins...

In short, if I was one of the remaining out of contract Saints (other than the one's I have suggested are pretty much gone already), I would be nervous.

And for the record, they are X Clarke, S Birss, A McQualter, J Gwilt, J Allen (prob safe), C Jones (also prob safe) & J Attard.

^^^ I swear I read somewhere Ross was quoted as saying he'd be using 5 or so picks? Gonna be a lot of delistings then unlesss I heard wrong.

So of the list of Punter's, here's my thoughts:

Xavier will be offered a one year contract. If he's crazy, he'll get in a snoot and try to push for more. That will mean he either gets booted (which will free up a spot), or stays: too hard to tell.

Jones is safe, he's not going anywhere. Gun player, maligned by few, and certainly not maligned by Ross Lyon.

Allen is safe, simply because he provides forward options, something that we're dying for.

Attard is safe, because now we desperately need him to take up the role that Dempster so handsomely filled in 2008.

Birss is shaky, and many of us will feel perplexed when he is ditched, but he's obviously not Lyon's cup of tea.

Gwilt is shaky, the only hope being that he is retained for his forward pressure - but Raph is probably going to take up this role anyway.

McQualter is gone, despite giving it a red-hot go this year. He was good, but he wasn't premiership good.

Of course, this depends on how seriously Lyon is about filling up six spots from the draft. Personaly, I think he's mad if he goes beyond 3 or 4 players, and this would give the shaky people a glimmer of hope. Throw Cousins into that mix, and sheesh...

Fiora is clutching onto his contract when he goes to sleep at night...

So we need 3 delistings eh? And L Fisher and C Gardiner are contracted? Ferguson is as well?

Cos those are the first three I'd delist. But obviously they're not going anywhere if they're all contracted.

So yeah, McQ most likely rooted.

****, if ****ing Princess Fiona is offered another ****ing contract. I am going to ****ing tear up my membership (and then stick it back together after 2 seconds:D).. It's really frustrating having the joke of the AFL (apart from the dockers of course) play on our team when Armo and Stevo are left out of the team. Fiona is a blemish on the club.

Fiora won't be delisted. he got a 2 year contract last year, they'll give him one more chance. (i don't reckon he's that bad)

Ferg keeps hanging on by a thread (delisted then drafted again IIRC) and apart from the game against Melbourne he hasn't done a heck of a lot.. maybe time is up for him?

McQualter is still pretty young.. dono about the contract situation of Rix but he'll be cut surely. Leigh Fisher must have fallen out of favour because he was decent 2 years ago. i'd keep him but i dono if Ross will. Birss won't be cut.

(Carlton delisted Clinton Benjamin, i think we should pick him up.. won't take up much cap space and he's lightning. i remember when he was coming through last time i was desperate for us to get him)

See I don;t get all the "Oh Rix is gonna go" talk since for a tall he is quite mobile and he actually does have consistency, plus if all the talk of putting Kosi down back is genuine Rix would also arguably be the better prospect in terms of mobility.

To spell it out for you. And I'm not bagging Rix here.

Rix is lucky to touch the ball at AFL level.
Rix is often used as a spare ruck, but we have re-signed Gardner and Macca is getting closer.
Rix has not been getting a game. If we want young players in the draft we need to make room on the list and it makes the most sense that those out the door will be those not getting a game.

Yeah but do we have a prospect of a KPP down back when Hudghton retires next year or are we going to simply go back to this year and "oh heyz Gram Goddard in the back half"? He doesn;t really need to have many possessions since he could effectively be that KPP instead of the possibility of using Kosi at either end or as a back up ruck also (notice a trend here? gardiner and King are pure ruckmen everyother tall is either forward and... backman and... and more utility based than anything) As has already been stated you can turn him into an able backman, btu yeah by all means he's not first pick, but to ditch him entirely I think is a waste.

As an aside, noticed poor old Ackers got the chop from the blues.

He was a dud anyway. Hardly surprising with Kruezer and Warnock. Even Cloke was ahead of him

I am not sure that Rix could fill the role of full back. It would be worth a try, but they didn't even try him at VFL level, so it seems unlikely he will be put in this position at AFL. We are really relying on the development of Gilbert and Attard. There has also been some discussion that Silvagni (from the Scorpions ) could be selected as a late pick.
Whoever we end up using, our team will be weaker when Max moves on.:(

Someone on the previous page posted that Attard is safe!!!
He is on the rookie list, cant remain on it as his 2 years are up. cant be retaken as a rookie as now too old.. Somebody has to be delisted to make way for him to be promoted.. To my mind he is in more danger of going than anybody. If the club does nothing he is gone.

True BorderBaz.

Assume that he was retained on the basis that our last pick would be used to re-elevate him to the senior list.

But it's a shame that he could not get back to play with Casey, as I'm sure the Saints wanted to see his full recovery before the decision.

Agree this might not go his way.

Dempster's emergence probably makes Attard less necessary than 12 months ago, but on the other hand Baker's failure to get on the paddock for most of this year may ring some alarm bells, so I still think Attard will be taken at the back of the draft. He's a really tough nut and Rossy loves tough nuts.

Was actually thinking CHB with the possibility of pushing Goose to FB depending on how he holds up conditioning wise since that's then consistent with the whole Kosi at CHB argument especially if we're also going to be attempting to release Chips as an attacking option. I've got little doubt that Rix givent he proper training next year could fill CHB when Maxie moves on or Blakes current possie so he could then be shifted around as well down forward. By all means Im not saying Rix is a standout, just that I'd be hesitant to delist him at this point before seeing just how well he could play the back half.
