YES, I agree with you about him being an experiment that didn't work.

I don't really think Matthews got it wrong. Bolton was given plenty of opportunities but more often than not just didn't cut it.

He was persisted with in half-back flanker type defensive roles. This is Matthews trademark style...make them learn to play in defence and develop them from there.

Let's not forget that it was Bolton who ASKED to be delisted....so obviously he reckons he was not being used in a role he was happy with......TOUGH.

Shattock was in and out and regularly disappoined...but last year finally started to show something.

Bit part players have to play their roles well...or stay as bit part players. Shattock stepped up in 2002 and Bolton didn't.
