It's actually a little scary how quickly Luke Ball, a well-respected, tough and recently retired player, could become nothing more than an AFL mouthpiece. In theory, he's the perfect kind of person you'd want to get into the umpiring side of the game, as you'd like to imagine he'd have a greater understanding of the modern game that could improve umpiring in future.

Boy, how wrong assumptions can be!

Awful decision. You shouldn't be able to mandate against force. Not unless play has stopped or there's some other reason that means Dempsey isn't allowed to tackle as hard as he wants.

Lifting, slinging and spearing are all dangerous actions that should be penalised, but not force. Silly.

Only under this administration could Dempsey's tackle be deemed 'dangerous' and Mumford's not. Laughable.

BTW, I think both were fantastic tackles in what was once a very physical sport.

Can't believe Luke Ball would sell out like that.

Can believe AFL trying to claim the decision was correct.

Ball is now sitting with Barrett in my books, nothing more than AFL mouthpieces.
