It's on now, if you want to hear it. I don't know if he's any good at it, but he's on. Maybe Nine have given him the full training and the fawn blazer? Or maybe he's just filling in.

He did some one-day state games last season. Just toning up the vocal chords for the real stuff come April.

whats his claim to fame?
is he just a hack journalist, or a former sportsman?

A reasonable footballer for West Perth, he coached them for a few years as well.

Was commentating cricket side by side with Alan McGilvray many years ago on the ABC. Would have more experience than most cricket commentators going around.

From what I heard him say once he was a cricket commentator before he became a footy one.

It's quite strange to listen to him though.

He's not bad on the cricket I'd like to see him on Ch 9's A team rather than being consined to commentary with Brashaw and Julian.

He could easily replace O'Donnell in the hosting duties, O'Donnell is terrible and obviously reading a script.

Dennis Cometti used to call cricket.... played Reserves football for Footscray for 1 season I think from memory.... then was Senior Coach of West Perth at the same time he was also an ABC commentator... which is unheard of now. It would be like Kevin Sheedy coaching Essendon then turning up to call a Collingwood V Brisbane game on a Sunday.

Listening to him now he has the best voice ever aye seriously. I recken they should call him 'The Voice'

scrap john farnham

Anyway i notice james brayshaw is commentating i remember that name he did a few games this year aye?

P.S If you could choose 4 commentators out of all of them to commentate every match who would they be? Mine would be:

Dennis Commetti,Eddie McGuire,Bruce McAvaney,Rex Hunt

They are gems

I reckon most of us would agree that 3 of these would be very much in demand.

Guess which one we wouldn't choose. ;)

I wouldn't mind watching a game without having to listen to Eddie, but I definitely miss Bruce's "special" voice on the AFL.

Ah, so it is Julian commentating. I wasn't sure or not and it was annoying me.:p

Didn't hear Cometti do the cricket but love him doing the footy. His humour is fantastic, and so quick. Some one sent me a list of some of his comments and I'll include one below:

From a Melbourne v Collingwood game:
Healy: 'Word is this guy is the most reliable kick for goal in the side. They say down at Collingwood if you had to have someone kicking for your life, Tarkyn Lockyer would be the man'.
Commetti: 'I'd prefer my mum'.
(silence)
Commetti: 'Not a great footballer, but at least she'd care'.

One I loved was when Port's Josh Carr (#9) contested his brother Matthew (#9) playing for Fremantle.
'Two Carrs crash, both with the same rego number'.

And finally there was that thing in 2003 where he had a challenge to include various song titles in his commentary. That was very funny. Is there anyone from WA who can tell us more about that?

And a hint to Channel 9
In: Brayshaw, Out: Taylor

And for Channel 10

It was really good to see Australia go for a full out youth policy. Marsh and Cleary really impressed me and both look to have the goods, although Tait bowled a good opening spell and Hauritz also bowled well. Sadly White, Watson, and North disappointed but oh well. I dont know how Thornely got a game, I do not rate him at all...
At least the signs from Zimbabwe werent too bad. Vermulen looked good before he committed suicide and Carlisle made a good century. If the rest of their batting line-up holds together they may just be able to cause some upsets.

My all star line up would be Dennis, Bruce, Ian Robertson(robbo), and probably Rex or Tim Lane.

He used to commentate on the cult 2UE commentary team every summer, along with Henry Blofeld, Ray "Slug" Jordan, Tony and Bill (realy getting the gloves off alot of the time!!!)

I miss those dudes!

Umm, not sure who Tom is, but Matthew Carr plays for Freo.
Tom is the elder brother, goes by the nickname of Tonka .............

Dennis was commentating on cricket whilst some present day "commentators" were only bulges in their old mans pants.
