Depp to be The Riddler?

It has been said there is enough footage left over to have him at least make an appearence in the 3rd film. Aaron Eckhart has also said he'd come back for the 3rd movie if he was asked. Speaking of which...

I was doing some digging today and come across a article about the proposed plot to the sequel of Batman and Robin in which Harley Quinn is The Joker's daughter and joins forces with The Scarecrow to force Batman to face his worst fear. The return of The Joker. I was thinking that would be a better plot for the next Batman film considering how much more of a destructive force The Joker was in The Dark Knight than the 1989 Batman movie. Instead of his daughter I'd cast her as a fanatic who is hell bent on releasing The Joker from Arkham and joins forces with The Scarecrow.

As someone else said I think the best idea is to have more than one or two villains as it will most likey going to be the last one and it has to be the ultimate challenge. You could have Quinn/Scarecrow, Two-Face so Batman and be eventually cleared of all the crimes he took credit for as well as two or three more to go with the chain reaction theory James Gordon spoke of in the first film. Apparently it's also said Nolan hasn't signed on for a third film and Christian Bale will only come back if Nolan directs so god knows what's going to happen with this series.

He hasn't offically signed on and committed to another one, but on numerous occassions he has spoken about what he would and wouldn't do for a 3rd installement so I think he's still got some interest in it and will stick around.

There will absolutely, positively be a third batman and it will be directed by Chris Nolan.

Even if Nolan is apprehensive about it (which i don't think he is anyway) WB will throw buckets and buckets of cash at him until he commits. It is a money making bohemeth and a third installment will be worth every penny.
Every man has their price.

Batman doesn't.

They've already made him rich.

And he could now get the green light on any project he wanted. When you're in that position money doesn't matter anymore.

The Rock as Bane? He can act and has the required stature for Bane.

It might be a stretch for him, he's only really done the nice guy role, and a yelling action hero role (although he was a one-dimensional villain as The Scorpion King), by the looks of it on wikipedia Bane is more complex.

I'm starting to think the Penguin could be done. Maybe as a secondary villain, but it is starting to look more realistic. I liked the lack of over the top villains in the first one with a mafia boss being one of the main villains so I don't see why the Penguin wouldn't work. Sure he's just a mafia guy, but Batman is just a rich guy himself.

Quinn only works with the Joker in sidekick role.

I'd be interested to see how far they take the Batman as a "villian" plotline. It could leave an opening for a Riddler type to come in as a new saviour for the people, who manipulates Gotham society as a means to hatch a plan to take control of the city, or something.

Plenty to go with in my opinion.

The following video comes from YouTube. It is merely a collection of clips from different films slapped together by the creator to outline the type of character he thinks the Riddler should be. Whilst it is nothing special, it is quite clever actually and I believe does a great job capturing the mood and idea the characterisation for the Riddler should take in Batman 3:

This to me is exactly how I picture the Riddler should be. Like Heath Ledger's Joker, maintains the essence of the character but is given Nolan's dark and disturbed touch and becomes completely original at the same time. If you think about it, Nolan could take this film to such a chilling place if he got the Riddler right.

For mine, when I think about it, I don't think Depp would suite the role overly well. The way I see and want it to be anyway. Whilst he can portray sinister, I don't think he could tip himself into the realm of being completely sadistically insane and I don't think it would suite him, he's too "pretty boy". Someone with that genuine creepy feel would be better suited, like Kevin Spacey in Se7en.

Christopher Nolan wants Cher as Catwoman... thoughts?

ive only ever seen her in Mask, and iirc, she did a decent job... not sure about this role though... i dont even like the idea of Catwoman as a villian, but Nolan will make it work

A) He's in no way suggested he's doing a third one yet
B) They've confirmed they don't want Catwoman or The Penguin

Absolutely rubbish rumour.

As before with “Batman Begins,” Goyer and the Brothers Nolan have not discussed a third film. “It wasn’t until three of four months after ‘Batman Begins’ opened that Chris and I sat down and talked about another one,"
There are dozens, if not hundreds of other characters that [are possibilities.] Everyone says you have to use the Penguin or Catwoman. Well, I completely disagree.”

That clip had some good things going for it. I thought that The Dark Knight was so epic that it would be near impossible to make a sequel which would be on the same level or exceed it. Nolan has obviously stated many times he doesn't make movies with the next one in mind. He went out all and pulled out all the stops in The Dark Knight. Many people were skeptical about Heath Ledger as the joker and look how that turned out.

But maybe, just maybe, I think that the casting directors should go for someone that the audience hasn't 'really' seen before. People already have alot of perceived views on Johnny Depp and what time of person he is. But in saying that he is a very unique and versatile actor. Could he pull it off? I don't know. But maybe like someone in that clip could be the rich direction. The casting has been near perfect so far so i have faith in whichever path they choose to go down.

Whoever suggested the Black Mask, they are spot on in my opinion. Has everything needed to be the next villain, isn't ridiculous (Mr. Freeze) or completely unrealistic (Killer Croc), has a good backstory involving Bruce Wayne which has plenty of potential and best of all he is a scary prick who would suit perfectly:

Nah. Much of the Black Mask's motivations are based on he and his parents relationship with the Wayne's when Roman and Bruce were children. You simply couldn't make a movie with Roman Sionis as the key antagonist without going back to his childhood relationship with Bruce Wayne and I doubt Nolan would go backwards again.

Don't hate on Mr. Freeze either. Great character if his story is told correctly and his characterisation massacred to the point of comical humiliation like it was in Batman & Robin.

I see your point about the history. They could possibly just skip to him being a random factory owner and Bruce bailing him out, although it wouldn't be the same without the childhood relationship I agree.

As for Mr. Freeze, alas I am haunted by the shitness of Batman and Robin and all that I can picture when I think of him now is Arnie's many incredibly lame temperature puns. 'Whaaaht keeled the dinosaurs? De Iiice Age!'

Watch the Animated Series episode "Heart Of Ice". Mr Freeze can be done very very well.
