Fantastic to hear KT. Honestly the hardest step.

As an update regarding my sleep stuff: Guy who ran my sleep study said he witnessed Medium to High levels of interrupted sleep and reckons they'll end up putting me on CPAP therapy. Said theres no wonder I feel terrible mentally a lot and hopes that it will go some way to helping me start to feel more motivated, which in turn means I'll be able to exercise more, which will also make me feel better.
If anyone finds they wake up a lot, or wake up with dry mouth/their partners tell them they snore, speak to your doctor, it can be a sign of something worse. Sleep Apnea can cause strokes, depression, lethargy, you name it.
Good luck DP
I have always had a problem with lack of sleep
4 to 6 hours if lucky, I had a u triple p ten years ago with no effect unfortunately even though I do not snore & am not over weight
Have had a couple of sleep studies which didn’t help
Was never really an issue until the last few years but now the lack of sleep is catching up on me in my old age

Sleep is the last bastion against the misery.

I used to sleep like a log however with a recent change in medication perhaps coupled with summer heat has left me struggling to sleep for more than an hour at a time which has meant much less respite from the constant battle.

I found my anti-anxiety pills did the same to me, gives you a bit of the old insomnia.

I have chronic Sleep Aponea, and I generally get around in a haze, I am looking at a surgical remedy.
I've got the same, but be careful with the surgical remedy. I had a mate that did it and it massively stressed him out. The surgery was awful, but after that he felt like he was drowning during sleep. It took him months to recover, and his only words to me was to find another way.

I have worked shift for years and I find the best way to cope with insomnia and sleep apnoea is taking a sleeping pill (Valium 5mg is my fav) on the night before the block (3am start) and then maybe one other night in the week if I am struggling. I never liked the idea of taking pills to sleep, but if you keep it to one or two a week you wont get addicted and it has made a massive difference for me in keeping my s**t together in what can be a pretty stressful job. I know that they say that sleep apnoea sufferers should not take sleeping pills, but I've never had any problems. I get some wild dreams (probably from lack of oxygen) but I usually wake up alright.

Good luck!

Yeah I saw these micro CPAP machines online and took a flyer on it (only $30) not expecting much but worth having a shot.

Had a rough few days, kids had vaccinations so were in a s**t mood, things around the house falling apart (recently renovated, cupboard and pantry doors, shower head exploded) blew $300 on fixing that. * I melted.

I wouldn't trust anything thats not rated by a medical board, they're medical equipment can't trust cheap alternatives.

Follow up regarding my sleep stuff:

Results came back, was scored at 70 events per hour. This means I was stopping breathing in my sleep more than once a minute, causing my SpO2 levels to constantly crash. Longest event was recorded at 40 seconds.

Doctor said he was astounded I could even function.

30 events per hour is classified as severe, I'm hitting 70, so CPAP is going to be a thing for me it seems.

Been on a trial machine for the last week, first day I actually got up as soon as I woke up rather than laying in bed, have actually got an appetite for the first time in about a decade and feel like I need to eat more than once a day.

As my sleep specialist said, CPAP is the gold standard, theres other treatments out there if you don't want it but they can't get anywhere near the effectiveness of CPAP.

Said that 90% of people who claim CPAP didn't work for them is solely for the fact they couldn't deal with wearing the mask, not that the treatment itself was ineffective.

The immediate increase to my energy has been much welcomed, the hunger not so much :p Not used to it haha

My biggest issue is I have a deviated septum which means my nose blocks up easily, the humidifier function is a must have or Im not going to cope.

You mentioned before you couldn't find a mask to stay on, how do you normally sleep?

Has anyone managed to catch the Mauro Ranallo Documentary yet? 'Bipolar Rock and Roller'

Apparently a really good lock at specifically bipolar and more broadly depression and other mental health disorders and overcoming them even when they're on top of you. Guy overcame a lot mental health wise to become one of the best fight commentators in the world.

"Mental illness may be a life sentence for many of us, but it doesn't have to be a death sentence. Keep fighting the good fight"

From memory theres a couple of posters with bipolar who may find it interesting, as well as those of us with other mental health issues.

Attempting to find somewhere to view it.

In tears today when I heard about Maj and just how hard things had gotten for him.

Speak up guys, so often it can feel like life is against you, but you have more friends than you realize.

Even us dopey morons on this forum have 2 ears and eyes to listen to and see to your needs if things start pulling you under.

That also goes to any of the NMFC players that read these forums, people on here may come off as assholes when they criticize performance, but each and every one of us is here for you if you need to speak with someone anonymously. Help is only a Private Message away.

NMFC is a family, and as soon as you play for us, or declare your allegiance as a supporter, you are a family member for life. And there will always be someone there.

Just checking in to see how everyone is going.

Also remember that we are all willing to listen here on the NM section of BF, regardless of any differences some people have over numerous threads - we are a caring bunch!

Can vouch for this. A few years ago now I made an alarming post about my mental state on another board and disappeared from BF, and the North board actually went to the extent of finding my FB (even though no one knew me by name) and reaching out to see if I was alright.

If any of you are ever struggling, send me a PM. You'd be surprised how much talking about it helps, even if only online.
