Based on the depth chart here is my current best 22 and VFL sides:

Best 22
B: Morris Rance Grimes
HB: Houli Chaplin Deledio
C: Ellis Cotchin Grigg
HF: Knights Vickery Martin
F: King Riewoldt Maric
R: Hampson Jackson Conca
INT: Newman S.Edwards Vlastuin Foley

VFL Side
B: Dea Darrou Batchelor
HB: Petterd Astbury McIntosh
C: O'Hanlon Lonergan Simon
HF: McDonoughGriffiths Williams
F: A.Edwards McBean Elton
R: Stephenson Arnot Helbig

Good stuff RT. Though I dare say it, Williams is an inside mid and I'd say Conca probably is more inside than outside so that adds even more to the inside mid depth. But shows a bit of a weakness on the outside, which is why I think we are targeting guys like Salem and Lennon. Even Freeman who can play on the outside if required.

My thoughts to.

Great stuff though RT. Shows a lot. Outside class needed as tigs says.

Small forward would be great.

I've made pretty obvious i'm fairly against an outside type player, but having a quick look over Freo and Hawthorn's list i wouldn't say they are overly blessed with outside class, even Sydney and Geelong don't have many.

Looking at it myself Hawks have Hill and Smith, maybe Burgoyne and Birchall but i I would class neither as outside mids.

Freo - I'd say have Pierce, Hill and maybe Mzungu. Pierce was shown up for a lack of composure in the GF tho

Sydney - Jetta and maybe McVeigh

Geelong - Motlop and Varcoe. One of whom they trying to get rid of.

I think the key is like Ellis they have to be able to go and win their own ball when they have too (i would like for him to do this more though and it seems he will with him suggesting he'll being doing a lot of inside work over summer). That being said I'd be stoked with Acres or Salem as i think they are that type of player.

Question about Lennon is can he move comfortably into the midfield. I've only seen his champs and he is beautiful kick and looks hard at it but he never went into the midfield when Metro needed him.

Not concerned about a lack of pace I don't think this is the issue. It's the ability to run out a full game of consistent 2 way running from both inside and outside mids. Our loss against Sydney summed this up, whilst not being quicker than us their mids ran harder for longer both ways and by the 3rd qtr we were shot. We aren't slow, we are blistering in streaks but burn out too easily in a lot of games which makes us look slower. Comes with maturity I guess, but there is no need to go out and recruit purely for more pace. More of the Ellis and Vlastuin types please.

Calcium Man when I say outside guy I mean a guy who plays well outside. I don't want a soft **** that won't go win his own footy. Those types get you nowhere as we've found out in the past. :p

Yeah i know. But i just feel our outside mids are not that bad. Infact i'd prefer it if Lids and Dusty played a little more inside. As i think Conca, Vlastuin and Cotchin are all very very good on the outside. I also think the ball moves faster then a player and we can move the ball as quick as anyone.

In the games we lost we lost clearances and contested possessions. We also let the other team get a high then average disposal efficiency. For mine its about winning more contested possessions and clearances as well as more pressure on the ball user.

Like i said i want Acres or Salem as i think they can play both roles. Its why i don't want Hartung or KK. Do you think Lennon can do it or is he a long term half forward??

Great post RT. For me, we need to make Martin a Inside Mid. He is a natural for it and then get him resting forward.
I honestly reckon Martin can be a totally unique player... one that does not fit normal 'inside' 'outside' stereotypes.
Kid just plays football... goes and gets it when he needs to, peels off and runs and carries when he can & goes forward and kills it when there.
We need a new category for the Martin type player....

God I hope he get's his shit together because it will be a wild but beautiful ride for us Tigers if/when he does!

C: Ellis Cotchin Grigg
HF: Knights Vickery Martin

VFL Side
B: Dea Darrou Batchelor
HB: Verrier Astbury McIntosh
C: Dea Lonergan Simon
HF: O'Hanlon Griffiths Williams
F: McDonough McBean Elton
R: Stephenson Arnot Helbig

Good line up. Though you have Dea twice in the ressies. Maybe slot O'Hanlon on a wing and A.Edwards on the HFF. Verrier has been cut but can just swap Petterd in there. Short term we need to start planning for upgrades on King, Newman, Foley and Knights in case his body doesn't hold up. Then long term develop a Chappy replacement. Some of them are probably on the list. McDonough, McIntosh, Helbig, Arnot, Astbury.

Then we need to work out long-term with Ivan, do we get a young ruck in and try develop one while he has a few years left or do we just steal one again when he retires.

By round 23 next year all going well I'm hoping the lineup will be something like:
B: Steve Morris Alex Rance Dylan Grimes
HB: Bachar Houli Troy Chaplin Jake Batchelor/Matt Dea
C: Brandon Ellis Daniel Jackson Shaun Grigg
HF: Dustin Martin Ty Vickery Brett Deledio
F: Shane Edwards Jack Riewoldt Ivan Maric
R: Shaun Hampson Trent Cotchin Reece Conca
INT: Nick Vlastuin Matt Mcdonough Matt Arnot Brad Helbig

Now that's looking like a good line-up. Really hope Dea can produce at AFL level with the same style he plays with at VFL. Think he'll be a player. Batch losing 3-4kg could offer a bit too. I think our first draftee will probably be ahead of both Arnot/Helbig so only one would get a gig. But that is starting to turn into a serious team that won't lose any players for a few years.

Yep and flies in the face of The List Manager:rolleyes: and his assertion that we've got an aging list.

This is exactly why I'm in love with Salem. Great silky outside mid but loves the tough stuff too. Averaged something like 6 tackles in the TAC Cup IIRC

Good stuff _RT_

Not sure Gordon is an inside midfielder though. Particularly at AFL level. More likely to play wing/half forward IMO.

Going purely off his write up on the Richmond site where he was described as being adept and winning the clearance and then distributing by hand, suggests to me that we see him playing an inside role when in the middle.

I like it. Nice to have a first round pick and Mcbean to add to the list. A question though, ignoring the hype when (all going well) would you expect McBean to make an appearance and/or become top 22.

Fair enough. He can win his own footy and is tough but just don't see him playing that role. He's better as a forward for starters and in the midfield I think he'd be wasted on the inside. Has good burst of speed and uses the footy well with good vision. Has all the attributes to be an upgrade on Grigg if we give him a crack.

I see McBean spending the season at VFL level unless one of the following happens:
- Jack or Ty suffer an injury or their form drops away dramatically.
- Hampson or Maric suffer an injury or their form forces a change.
Outside that I see McBean developing in the VFL side which is a good thing. Kid is still the 3rd youngest player on the list and still far and away the lightest of our talls. Let the kid develop for another year or 2 and then bring him in as a full time proposition. In the meantime just bring him in for the occasional run and develop his game at AFL level as well.

Cant argue. It's such a foreign concept for us tiger supporters, not rushing the next messiah into the team. We've come a long way.

McBean will get games next year IMO but i don't see him holding a permanent spot. a few kids will be in the same boat and as they are young will be rested at times as well. having depth allows us to ease them all in. may well even play games through the year and rest for some games then if the Coaches see him as the best option for his spot he'll be there for the end of the season and into the future.
