Strategy Depth in 2013

I think it's perfectly valid to call it now.

Barring the potential recruitment of Jacobs, and the set in stone Joe Daniher (whom we can already discuss as a certainty), I don't think anyone we call out on Thursday is going to be in any reasonable calculations for senior action in 2013.

Really? I would expect at least one preferably two players from the state leagues or de-listed free agency to come onto the list. Plus there is often one kid who surprises everyone over the preseason and pushes for round 1 selection.

All of these guys plus more.
Ouch

I have since changed my team and it doesnt involve Nob, Kav or Browne from memory. Having one as the sub is certainly very plausible.

I still however think that NOB gave us something different although at the time we didnt have Winderlich.

I agree with Jade.

Assuming all the ND picks are 18/19 yrs old, I never expect first year first year players to play AFL, unless they are freakishly talented eg; Heppell.

I worry if they don't play 5 to 10 games in Year 2.

Heppell... and Browne... oh, Ross... Merrett.. Kav... O'Brien... Melksham... Colyer....
Basically 80% of our (national) draftees since 2006 have played first year.

Every one who hasn't, has been delisted within 2-3 years - bar Davis (Steinberg, Still, Slattery, Long)

Winderlich is comfortably our best. Jetta/Davey is lineball but TRB has shown a clear preference for Jetta.
First choice, I agree.

Best, I don't.

His best is the best (his half vs Adelaide, and his game vs Sydney in 2010 were awesome), but IMO, Davey's got a few more runs on the board.

don't really think davey vs jetta is even a debate anymore. Davey kicks goals. perhaps most importantly for a small forward, considering how bad the supply can be and how important it is to take advantage of it, he's also turned himself into a bit of a sharpshooter over the past two years

He's a 2-3 goal per game small forward.

The problem is, that's translated to 5-10 goals per season for him.

I genuinely think a 22 game Winderlich could kick 50 goals. Shame there's no such thing.

Eh, go ahead.

If you're going to come on an opposition board and troll so blatantly, you deserve it as far as I'm concerned. Especially with a username like that.

Can anyone smell what they're cooking?

but but but Ben, Carlton are coming. We know they're coming.

They know that we know they're coming.

We are Carlton, and they know we're coming.
>hotcox
>know they're coming

oh god my sides

Yes - But some were played because of long injury lists and a token game in the case of Merrett.

Few become regular players in Year 1 - But as I said if they aren't playing in Year 2 you have to worry.

You'd expect JD to play 10 to 15 games.

Oh, bravo. You've parrotted the coach's prediction, well done you. I presume he then goes on to play 5 to 10 in year 2?
How about, you know, guys get selected on merit? If they're good enough year 1, they play year 1. Simple as that. If guys aren't playing year 2, it doesn't necessarily mean anything long-term.

Would be great news if Winderlich can get through preseason with no injuries or niggles!

Have we given up on re-drafting Prismall? Is that completely out the window?

For example, I recall someone who left Heppell out.......

I remember seeing that too. He'd forgotten, I think, and made the change. But the fact that he is that distracted to miss Heppell says something.

At this stage, before we know about our full list, I'm not concerned about depth, as we can cover the usual amount of injuries. By usual, I mean AFL usual, not EFC usual.

Just (prematurely and foolishly) psyched to have a look at our boys for a solid couple of months without forced changes next season.

Yup.

Do you think Merritt got selected on merit - Not according to the Bendigo watchers.

We will have a good player if Merritt is half the player of his Great Uncle - Thorold Merrett

I'm not fussed whether players play AFL in year 1 - But expect them to play games ( promising ) in Year 2.

I have a different opinion to you on this matter - What's new.
