Same again. Completely shat the bed in the first quarter and it cost us.

We lost, we had some s**t skills but * we were close

There's a lot to like. McCarthy had 2, Mundy played amazing, Switto showed what he can do

Are we a finals chance? Probably not but if we can learn to capitalise on the mistakes then we sure as hell should be

Congrats to the coasters

The skills are absolutely horrendous and have been for a while. Just do not understand how we can't kick, mark or hold onto the ball. And the awareness is sorely lacking as well. How many times do we go around spoiling each other or leave a ball expecting a team mate to take possession just for the opposition to swoop in and run off with it? Madness.

We have a generally good squad with a lot of budding superstars but there seems to be no major confidence in the players to use a bit of flair or back themselves in. Really need to be asking questions of our coaches at the moment.

Positives
- A lot of inside 50s
- Midfield held on without Fyfe
- Mundy was back to his best
- Taberner continues to create lots of opportunities
- Hogan kicked his first goal for the club
- McCarthy is giving me hope that he will make it.

Negatives
- Inability to collect the ball cleanly
- Taberner wasted too many opportunities, he wasn't alone though.
- Our forward structure is a mess
- Players running into / competing with each other too much.
- Hamling injury. Bugger.
- Destroyed in the ruck.

We really can’t afford Hamling to be out, he’s too good and we have no other real options down there that are ready. Barra seemingly doesn’t age. Andy really needs to tidy up his disposal.

There are some other things that really ought to sought themselves out after gelling a bit more, there are far to many times where we spoil each other, get in the way etc.

I’ll take that result considering but really should have done better. Bit like Tabs tonight, played alright but could have been so much more.

Also our forward entries in the first half in particular

Can't question the effort, we dominated the game for large parts but couldn't convert that into a decent score.

The defense were excellent, limiting a traditionally very high scoring team to 63 points would typically win the game, but of course we're Freo and we struggle getting the ball through the big sticks.

There are plenty of encouraging signs, especially winning the contested ball without Fyfe (largely thanks to Mundy), but ultimately it counts for little if we continually struggle in front of goal. Better teams would've cruised to a 4-5 goal win, but yet again our skills were woeful.

It could've been worse, but it could've also been so much better.

Really proud of our effort without Fyfe and Hamling. Our skill level was somewhat worrying though, to say the least. I really hope Hamling's injury isn't severe, he's one of our top 3 most important players imo.

The bomb it long to the hotspot in the first quarter was a big factor in our slow start. Wc countered and had too much speed ngoing back the other way.
We didnt hit up a lead in the forward 50 till the third quarter when we actually looked good.
Yeah we should of won if only a skills under pressure were better.
Tabs for out most dangerous fwd missed a lot of easy goals.

In the end it was actually a huge effort by the boys all night, just let down by poor skills an efficiency.

I was actually impressed that we managed to limit the eagles scoring despite hamling going down early.

  • Tabs is a frustrating player, does good stuff then does so much dumb stuff
  • Hogan we got a glimpse of some good things but he has a habit of crashing into his own players
  • still bombing it to their loose man or a contest instead of passing to a leading player
  • how many times did we kick it to Hurn vs a midget one on one
  • Midfield held up ok without Fyfe
  • two moments of pure game killing for me was Tabs miss early in front and Conca kicking it to an eagles player with the quarter almost over
  • Hamling injury boo
Commentators were talking us up with a chance towards the end but we are not at a point where we will win these close games against good teams.

Anyone that can't take positives out of that is damaged goods. Good signs in many places.
Yeah this, it was not a great game by any means but definitely some positives to be brought out of this.
