Derby ins and outs

My .022:

Fido is almost certainly back, Wirra is still a question mark, and although Braun is listed as available we would be mad to run him straight back into the side. Ditto for any thoughts of giving Kempy one last Derby crack. So...I would say Other Matera in for either Green, or Wirrpunda if he's injured beyond match fitness, and in that latter scenario I would then put Hunter in for Green as a better defensive alternative. Wilson *may* get the shove for Cummings, but I think Cummings needs to get his consistency worked out in the WAFL before he is allowed back. Stick with the Freight Train, KJ :)

Even if KJ *were* entertaining mad ideas of pulling Kemp or Braun back in, I think Haynes thoroughly earned another game with his effort v SouthKildaport, and the club would be better served to drop...Chambers, maybe?

I want to see Chambers, Green and Wilson all be kept in the side for the Derby.

Green was quite good, kicked 2 goals - he's part of the future of the club in the next 2/3 years.
Wilson needs to stay because he can take out some Dockers for us, plus Ken Judge needs to let him know that they have faith in him and what he can achieve.
Chambers didn't have the best of games, but I'd like to see him remain in the midfield in the Derby, he might be a big-game player.

Then who do you propose to drop?

I agree with D4E, drop Chambers and bring in Fido.

This is just about the first time this season we are considering who should be chosen out of a pool of players rather than selecting 18 obvious ones and four hopefuls!

I think Chambers is doing well and Green was good. Yes Fido should play and Hunter looked excellent in the WAFL. But just think, who would we drop if these players were fit and available :-

Gaspar
Banfield
Braun
Read
Sierra
Prior
Morrisson
Kemp
Donnelly

New Recruit?

Whilst writing my list of players from your mob i actually had time for, I visted the AFL site, aand under your section Here - I notice you seem to have picked up a new recruit - BRONWYN Eagles :D :D :D

Read the full story Right here - I knew you were a team of girls, but thats taking it too far!

On the radio here this morning word is that Kemp will play his retirement game this weekend.

Don't be surprised if he is named in the line up tonight.

Can't wait till the day we will have all of them available. Surely we will push for a top 8 finish next year.

Add to that list McDougall, who is touted as a key position player - maybe CHF or CHB - and season 2002 suddenly looks a lot brighter than it did a month ago. :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

The Pride of the West is up for grabs again this weekend, in the 14th Western Derby at Subiaco Oval. In a season which has been pretty dismal for both teams, this match is as close to a finals atmosphere as we're likely to see in Perth for some time yet.

A few weeks ago, nobody would have predicted that we'd be playing the Derby with both teams coming off a win. But the Dockers win over Hawthorn, their first for the year, will give them some confidence, while the Eagles showed that kicking a big score is not beyond them as they demolished the Saints.

A win for Fremantle on Sunday will give them a sniff of a chance of getting off the bottom of the ladder by the end of the season. That, coupled with the ever-present desire to be the West's number one team, should provide them with plenty of motivation

Scott Cummings has been recalled for the big match, after regaining some form in the WAFL. However, he has been named on the bench, with Troy Wilson named on the field, suggesting that Wilson will still hold the number one full forward position. In what is likely to be a hard-hitting, emotion-charged match, Wilson will be valued as much for his physical presence as his goal-kicking ability.

Ashley McIntosh has been returned to his customary position at full back, after returning to action and kicking four goals last week. Phil Matera is also expected to return from his ankle injury.

With both teams acquiring something of a reputation for fading out badly at the ends of games this year, this is a match in which neither team can feel comfortable until the final siren blows.

Fremantle have showed a greater ability to stage a comeback than West Coast have in recent weeks, so no lead should be considered safe for the Eagles.

The Record: West Coast have played Fremantle thirteen times. The Eagles have won eleven of those, to the Dockers two. In Round Four this year, the Eagles won by 24 points.
