I know a week is a long time in footy but I'm preparing for a trashing at the hands of the weagles unfortunately. Though I am prepared to be convinced otherwise!

we always lift for the derby and after this week, we'll be wanting to make amends. weagles are 50 times better this year than last, though, so it will be no walk in the park as they'll be lifting too. this could go either way.

After yesterday, Im prepared for a loss. Possibly without Fyfe and Ballantyne, and the crapness of some of the players will make for an ugly ugly day.

Just watching them now, I think we should match up on them well. They dominated the first half in the middle and had a huge advantage with inside 50's - which started in the ruck, something they won't dominate next week. Their backline is like a sieve, when Essendon get it forward they were virtually scoring at will. Their delivery into the forward line is very predictable - they just bomb it long, which will suit our backline. The 2nd half they started losing the midfield and they're getting slaughtered. The last 10 minutes they've started getting their hands on the ball again but they can't score, because they keep bombing it long.

They were damn hard at the ball in the first half though. Even though Sandi might win the bulk of the taps, it's not going to be easy to win the clearances if they're as hard at it next week. No room for softies in the middle.

I am actually feeling pretty confident about the derby. Freo clearly lacked its usual hunger for the contest against Richmond, and I reakon that the humilitation of the loss and resulting heat that follows will shake any complacency out of the team.

Being a derby, there is no way that they be able to keep Ballentyne or Fyfe out of the team even if they wanted to.

This will be West Coast's grand final. They are up and about early, their pressure and skills are good but it won't last the whole season and they'll throw everything they have at what is their best chance at beating Freo in years. Expecting a loss.

This year all we have is forward pressure, once it gets out of there the pressure is almost non existant.

This is really my greatest fear that they are driven to prove everyone wrong like we once did and we may be struggling to maintain the pace from last year. That is the real challenge to actually improve when everybody expects you to win.
