Young was brought in for the 2013 season. So that was Walsh wasn't it?

Reads a lot better that way Armstrong and Crisp cost nothing, Varcoe somewhat cheap considering circumstances, Adams is proving his worth and yes at this stage White was expensive but was a need.

I would give Hine a good mark as list manager
expensive?.....pick 44?... nice work

To start the ball rolling, let's clarify some things.

Hine took over as List Manager at the end of 2013, Geoff Walsh walked out during the middle part of that year, shortly after the Harry O'Brien drama.

Don't believe Derek is a bad recruiter. He is a very good recruiter of U18 kids, that is a difference to bringing traded players in.

Hine has brought in these recycled players. White, Tony Armstrong, Clinton Young, Taylor Adams, Varcoe & Crisp. I'd put his strike rate at 50/50.

A lot of criticism gets thrown towards Buckley but our list management under Hine has been questionable.
Based on the picks that actually cost us something, Hine is 3/3. Shaw, Beams, Harry, (Harry debatable) becoming Adams, Degoey Crisp, jury still out on Greenwood due injury, loved his game on Joel Selwood, and Varcoe.

Dom Sheed was never coming to us, that was part of the understanding with the pick upgrade.

As Vicky Park said, it is way too early to make a call on this. And if your trying to assess now you're actually gonna get the opposite result to what you're looking for Mick.

I have a feeling you are going to regret this thread by the end of the week.

Seperate trades. We upgraded 11 to 6 with WCE. We traded in White for a pick in the 40s or 50s.
No. 44 came from WC and then went to Sydney for White.

Part of the upgrading of Pick 11 to 6 was downgrading our second round pick to 44.

Pick 11 became Pick 6.
My apologies, it was Dom Sheed at 11 v Scharenberg at 6.
You've just restored my faith in Hine. That trade was a masterclass in astute trading. We rated Bontempell, Scharenberg and Aish miles above guys like Lennon and Sheed. This trade was designed to enable us to get one of those 3 guys who wouldn't have been available come pick 11. All we lost was the downgrade of 29 to 44. In the long term, if the trade doesn't work out it will be due either to bad luck or misreading the draft - not a trading issue.

And I'm sure WC would be laughing they got Elliot Yeo for our second rounder and we got Jesse White.

But we were never in the running for Yeo as he wanted to head home. A better comparison would be between White and who Brisbane picked at our original second rounder.

Do half of the posters on this board actually work for the club?

Far too many apologists. There is no doubt that some of our recruitment of players already in the league has been crap, and with Howe coming in the questions need to be asked.

This doesn't negate the good work that has been done, especially with identifying talent in the draft.

Crisp I don't give particular credit for though, it is just more amazing that Brisbane let him go as the steak knives. He has come good faster than could have been predicted, but anyone who watched him play could see the talent.

Okay Mick, once again you've got the facts completely wrong.

We traded picks 11,31 and 49 to West Coast for picks 6 and 44.

We traded pick 44 to Sydney for Jesses White.

Elliot Yeo was traded from Brisbane for pick 28 which was West Coast's original second round pick. So this had nothing to do with Collingwood.

West Coast took Malcolm Karparny at pick 31 and Dylan Main at 49.

Sydney took Aliir Aliir at pick 44.

So they are the players you should be comparing Jesse White to.

Just to make it clear: Elliot Yeo had nothing to do with our trading and was acquired with West Coast's original second round pick (28) not the pick 31 we traded to them.

Come back THATSGOLD, all is forgiven!
It's like that scene in Seinfeld when George says "and suddenly we have a new contender"
