Ricky Gervais tweeted the trailer to his new show Derek last night.



Derek has Ricky playing the title role of a sweet but stupid aged care worker, and (awesomely) featuring Karl Pilkington as another of the employees. It starts next week apparently.

Apologies if there's been a thread on this, but I couldn't find it.

I liked the first episode/pilot, was quite an emotional one. Looking forward to this.

Yeah the pilot was quite good.

More of a drama than a comedy, but Gervais' shows have always been good at pulling at the heart strings.

I wonder whether it'll grow old quickly, but assuming he sticks to six episode seasons, he should be fine.

Couldn't tell if it was supposed to be a comedy or a drama. Wasn't funny and Ricky Gervais' character was over-acted IMO so I couldn't take it seriously. Strange because I usually love Gervais' work. On a side note just watched all of Life's too Short and it is brilliant. Can't believe they're not doing a second season.

I sort of forgot to keep watching Life's Too Short after three episodes.

Just found it way too "same old", but with a less captivating main character.

I liked the pilot ,was both humorous and had a bit of emotion to it.Looking forward to watching the series. Karl did ok as a actor as well.Not too hard as he is a professional whinger

I usually enjoy their stuff but I found the pilot to be a bit grim and kinda..just not that funny...

Agree with above, the Derek character struck me as a bit hammy, Gervais pulling his '******' face and making grunting noises...

I've been a big fan of Karls for a long time so anything that he's in I love to watch.

Not to sold on the whole forced sadness of the rest of it though

And Lifes too short was one of the worst TV shows ever written

Jury was probably out for me on the first episode. Karl is awesome, plot seems a bit same old.

Man, I hated this so much. I'll give next week a go, but not sure that even my boy Karl is enough to keep me watching. The sad piano and the panning vision of old people made me want to puke.

Yeh the second ep was a bit of a miss i'd say
Forced piano sadness
The existence of Kev's character
Cringiest storyline with the angry teen who all of a sudden loves old people
