I thought he was our best young player alongside Langford. Good evasiveness, and can get the ball, but lacks kicking penetration.

Does anybody think he can be a ridgey didge rover? Probably lacks the kicking to be a small forward.

Thoughts?

He is handy. Good sideways speed and agility. Creative and has good bite at the pack. Straight line speed perhaps not quite there to be a class rover.

He doesnt really like taking hits to the body which needs to change.

He reminds me of the Bond brothers that played for weagles and crows in 90s.

The lack of kicking penetration concerns you with Wangas, yet you think the club made a huge mistake when they delisted Schnieder?

I'm a bit of a fan of Wanganeen. To me his body language and general willingness to do whatever it takes seems to come across. And as has been proven with others, kicking penetration and speed don't necessarily determine success in footy. I'm keen to see more of him that's fore sure.

However, I will admit that I'm making this call from only seeing him play last weekend and a couple/few BH games last year.

Schneider was a ball magnet in the VFL, and I have no doubt he would be the same at AFL level, so yes I think it was an error to delist him.

I didn't say Wanganeen's kicking concerned me though, just that it meant he probably wouldn't be a good small forward at AFL level and better suited to the midfield.

Why would the lack of penetration be a concern as a forward?

But again you've contradicted yourself to an extent. Where would you put Schnieder when he needs a rest and there are only 2 on the bench? You wouldn't stick him in the back pocket.

Ball magnet in the VFL doesn't matter. There are plenty who are ball magnets who were failed AFL players and never up to it. Schnieder is the same. AFL is quicker, faster and you need to be more versatile and cover a lot more ground. All of these things Schnieder cannot do. He wasn't a solid user of the ball too. Nothing to write home about.

I'd prefer a forward who can easily make the distance from 40. Wanganeen looks like he would struggle with that.

On the bench.

And plenty who were magnets in both.

Have you seen him kick for goal from 40m? How do you know he can't make it?

You have 4 mids, 2 wingers, 2 half forward flankers and 2 half back flankers, but only 2 spots on the bench. You can't always give players rests on the bench.

Those who were magnets in both were/are better players than what Schnieder was.

It's interesting because the reasons you give for why Wangas should be a midfield and not a forward are the same deficiencies that Schnieder, a midfielder, had and he didn't make it, then was passed up by everyone in the AFL draft, taken in the middle of the rookie draft and then delisted before being overlooked in all drafts again.

I'm assuming that Schneider would get a rest on the bench same as the other midfielders.

I didn't find that interesting at all.

You can't deny that fact though.

There's a reason 18 clubs overlooked him last draft. Worrying signs when 18 clubs would have (or had the opportunity) seen him closely at VFL level and known he's been getting elite AFL coaching for 3 years.

Wasn't quite there last year, but after watching him last week, he looks to have turned a corner.

If Poppy doesn't come up for the season start. Expect Wanganeen to be one of the first in line to fill his spot.

Can't see him being in the mix for round 1. He'd have to come off the rookie list and we never seem to like doing that, unless for ruckmen.

Was pleased with his game last week and hoping he gets a good run this week. One of the few that put their hands up.

I enjoyed watching Wanga the other night, admittedly hadnt seen much of him apart from a few Box Hill games last year, but after what I saw last weekend I reckon it would be great if he gets a heap of game time this season. Loved the way he went about it, and his hands seemed sure in shite conditions.
