Derm is allright. Can over analyze and reminisce a little but he knows his stuff.

Biased but who isnt? At least he is honest about it and does try to be objective. Same goes for Ed.

I prefer slightly biased but transparent commentators (Ed, JB, Derm, Huddo, Mooney, Ricciuto, Carey...) than flat out shit commentators (BT, Darcy, Dwayne, Gerard, Harley and lamentably, the 'new 'Bruce)

People get far far too worked up about a negative comment towards their club (does my head in on the hawks board). Its their job.

Totally agree with the opening poster. I can't stand his commentary and would rather the sound off when he's on the team... Try hard pseudo-intellectual ramblings. I'm a Hawks supporter that loved watching him play in the 80's but now I'm sick of his endless waffle. Only one worse is mental midget Tony Shaw.

I don't mind him, even if he is anti Bombers. I can't stand Bruce, if I want one commentator gone by the end of the year its him. This comes after listening to BT actively barrack for Port last weekend. I'd still rather Bruce be kicked out.

The worst ! i switch off any game he commentates on ... massive ego and tonnes of blow is not a good combination .

I watch a lot of non bombers football. But either way commentators should be about their quality and Bruce has none left

also it s0uond like u dont grasp the AFL game? if i was to guess.. u would know about 1/1000th of what dermie knows regarding footy.. pretty harsh to say hes no good just, just cos your dumb, u cant call ppl who are smart at a particle thing dumb as well.. doesnt work like that.. basically your dumb at footy, i gaurantee.. thats if your can run more than 10 secs.. homer simpson style.

yeh like if he had a footy iq of 100., your footy iq would b say 5-10.. and yeh just cos he says stuff you dont understand, u cant blame some ppl to think hes not that good becos they dont understand what dermie is saying,.. but yeh i know..other veteran supporters know.. but somehow it goes over ur head? with a 5 iq in footy i guess you barely have a clue.. go play AFL then or b a commentator and see how u go? you wouldnt get a kick in afl, and u would b the worst commentator in the whole world, soccer nba nfl rudgy afl etc etc..u would have absolutely no clue.. ull get lost both on field and on special comments.. what, ull say, umm good kick um good goal, um can this guy kick long or which leg does he kick on? ummm centre bounce starts! thats it for 10-20 mins after u say the bounce starts.. then silence, wouldnt b able to see who was on the ground (apart from the stand outs that plp notice str8 away). ah im just being silly, ill stop now.. u cant argue with teenagers i guess, silly comments and lack of knowledge of the game will just keep arguing in circles cos u dont know what footy is about, u only c the kicks for goal an and go from there,, or u look at the stat sheet after.. if ppl get over 35 possies, then thats pretty good. and thats all u know... mark handball kick.. guess over the rest..

I'm sorry jaitachi but you're just going to have to repeat 5th grade for the ninth time.
Maybe next year we can have a 21st birthday party and a completing the 5th grade party all rolled into one

I disagree with all the criticisms about him constantly talking about himself and referencing his glory days. These are puerile sledges (which mainly emanated from Sam Newman on TFS) and not particularly truthful about his football commentary. On a panel show such as League Teams, he'll swap "war stories" with Shawy, Johnno, Parkin, Mooney and Barry Hall in order to fill time, but not when he is covering a game.

Unfair criticism, IMO. Wide of the mark. This seems to be the favoured approach of Dermie-haters when they wanna bag Brereton. Sure, he is big-headed. Most footballers are. Just about everyone who works on TV is a big head. No need to single out Brereton.

I agree 100% with all the criticisms about him loving the sound of his own voice, talking endless shit, giggling incessantly, making everything more complicated than it needs to be and taking forever to make his point. These observations are spot on.

It's a shame really, because if he reined in these annoying idiosyncrasies, he would probably be the best commentator. He has a passion for footy which isn't shared by many of his jaded colleagues and aside from the quibbles from West Coast Eagles fans, he has a bloody good knowledge about most clubs and their lesser known players. He is one of the few commentators I actually learn something from.

I don't treat everything he says as gospel. I filter out most of his bullshit. What I meant is he makes good observations about players I barely know. He doesn't annoy me by crapping on about what elite footballers Ablett, Dangerfield, Pendlebury or Selwood are. This seems to be the extent of most commentators knowledge of the game.

Described his dribble perfectly, I cant help but totally switch off when he's commenting.

Better to remain silent and be thought of as a fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt. Dermott should take note of that old saying. Don't mind him aside from his commentary, kind of a tool, but not a colossal douche or anything.
