I'm a Des convert this season. Two years ago I thought he was soft, made bad decisions and was prone to going missing in big games.

But my opinion of him has been slowly turning around. Even on a dark day for Freo like today, I think Des Headland can hold is head high.

No more Des bashing from me. I think the bashers are starting to get a hold of Mundy now.

Kenny - Des may be close to our hardest player, but he can't touch Grover for tough.

I thought the complaints on Headland were he only performed when we won??

Now you are saying he was best on ground in a losing team??

I'm confused.........

He has been very consistent this year though, and then gets the label of downhill skier yet was one of our best in a LOSING side?

Edit: Cam K beat me to it

Yet again Des was best on ground (for freo) in a losing team. That is typical Headland - Sure he had a good game, but he is too inconsistent.

I have never questioned Des' natural talent - the question marks relate to his head space.

What in the World are you talking about? The argument has always been that he is good when we win and terrible when we loose, you know the whole front runner myth?
He was excellent in the first half when the game was really willing, seemed to be moved forward and out of the game when Farmer went off which is poor coaching not his fault. You CAN NOT fault his game today and his form over the past month.
Keep it up Des, have always been on your side buddy.

Ha ha.

It's Frank from Canning Vale only with an IQ of 10...

Des clearly had a brilliant game against Carlton on the weekend - in many ways it was "classic Headland" - towling up a stuggling club which is going through a re-building phase.

The true test for Headland will be against Sydney this week. In the finals series against Sydney last year Headland went MIA.

So, is he an Up-hill skier??? Or a Down-hill skier???

So he's dones what everyone wanted him to do, play well for once when the rest of the team aren't playing well.

I'd be leaving Grover out of that, he played sensationally yesterday! Did you see that bump he put on Barry Hall? Beautiful stuff! Sent him flying!

Headland has indicated his intention to launch a professional boxing career post football. West Australian boxing champion Danny Green has spared with Headland and has paid tribute to Headland's punching power and fast footwork around the ring. It would appear that Headland will secure another contract extension with the Fremantle Dockers at the end of the 2007 season, likely tying Headland to AFL until his early 30's. However, proffesional boxers are noted for not peaking until their mid to late 30's which leaves the window open for Headland to launch himself into the world of professional boxing. Interestingly, Headland would be likely to fight in the same weight division as Anthony Mundine, which may lead to a monumental clash between the former AFL and Rugby League stars in the event that Headland makes the shift to the ring.

FROM HIS WIKPEDIA

That is a load of shit.

Headland would not make a good boxer - Green was just joking around when he made those comments.

Headland could not even land a clean punch on pretty boy Selwood back in round 3.

Got you a moron, and an uninformed one at that. Have you ever seen Dessie in the ring?
He is a natural, moves around extremely well. Is extremely fast and packs some power. Pound for pound would be the ebst fighter in the AFL no doubt about it.

Just another solid performance from Headland, who has now made quite a few people look a little silly with their assesment of him as a player and person. What I like is the way he came out and said that his finals performance was not acceptable, and has taken on the challenge of turning that around. Still waiting for those who promised to show the incidents, a couple every week, where Headland shirks the contest.

Surely he is the one who looks silly, for not playing at his current level for the last four years? No one doubted his ability, his commitment was the issue.

Instead of working hard to make amends for his shocking finals series maybe he should have put in 100% last year.
