Other DeShaun Watson - Allegations of Improper Behavior

PFN's Aaron Wilson reports that "there is concern from the NFL Players Association" that the league will look to suspend Deshaun Watson for "the entire 2022 season, if not indefinitely."

CBS' Josina Anderson also reported earlier today that there were talks between the NFL, NFLPA, and Watson's advisors to negotiate over discipline, and that talks "fell apart" over the number of games missed. It definitely feels like the momentum of the process is leading towards a lengthy Watson suspension. The Browns are "expected" to go forward with Jacoby Brissett, per Wilson, if Watson is suspended for the season.

I think its great, but I wonder if the nfl would be so heavy handed if they didnt have Snyder/congress to deal with also. Got to make it look like they dont accept any sexual misconduct.

Backing themselves into a corner if the Wilkinson report is released

Court room 101, isn’t it? Ask for the death penalty, while the defense asks for bail. Now the NFL has its headline, can say it wanted a huge suspension when people end up saying it wasn’t enough.

Although I wouldn’t mind a full year to make his contract toll. Better than two thirds of the season…

He hasnt been charged with anything.

As someone said in a pft comment....the NFL should just stick with on field infractions and steroids and gambling....leave criminal accusations to the courts and not get involved. The whole disrepute to the game thing should not be a thing

contrarian GG back in the building. Saw this coming months ago :tearsofjoy:

So an OJ Simpson could continue to play even though a civil court pretty much found him responsible?

Good counter-point. Id counter by saying the NFL teams can choose to not employ Simpson, Rice, etc rather than try to hand down suspensions for disrepute because its a slippery slope and owners and players are treated differently too.

...and when a deserpate team still pays and plays them with unresolved issues, thereby tarnishing the overall image of the league?

The league image thing is a cop out anyway. Goodell has swept cheating away, sexual misconduct by owners away, CTE, etc.

You have cases like Tyreek Hill, Roethlisberger, Etc where minimal suspension occured yet Watson has to get 12-24 months as a sacrifical lamb for the image thing whilst Jerry and Snyder continue unabated, meanwhile Kaepernick for kneeling. Theres a lot of hypocrisy there, get rid of the hypocrisy altogether. If they are charged with something let the courts deal with it.

So youre happy for millionaires to act like scum coz they can keep making money to continually pay victims off?

Money and control unfortuantely allow that hypocrisy, I agree it sucks and we all know under the surface it's a cesspool that to a degree we all ignore to enjoy a game we love.

If they actually do hold DeShaun accountable here it actually makes it harder for them to be leniant toward the next person, say Snyder for example, if more details come out surrounding that issue.

What J Shuttlesworth said said it best. The whole thing just stinks, double standards, etc. There shouldnt be this special example made of Watson when not even charged with anything and you can bet Snyder lives on. What happens when someone is actually innocent but doesnt get his name cleared till after lengthy suspension or outed from the league for 3 years but by then its too late.

Its like the Greg Hardy case with his ex, that was set for trial then suddenly the victim didnt turn up (coz she was paid off), what a joke the league would become if there wasn't punishment for your actions. You'd only encourage more disturbing behaviour with players knowing they dont have to worry about losing out on any future earnings.

Agree but it's a slippery slope either way -- punishing disrepute to the game, or not punishing it. It's probably not a black and white thing, needs some kind of sense

I hope a year long suspension backs the NFL into a corner with Snyder and other owners. Would set a great precedent coz we all know they are a bunch of sleaze bags.

Unfortunately ive got zero faith in US congress doing anything right by anyone, they are probably just using this to get some of that sweet sweet bribe money for themselves.

Half of the people on the hearing are already probably in Snyders books or associates

that w***er who asked about Dave Portnoy pissed me off so much. How bout asking a relevant question about Snyder and the Commanders instead you dickhead. Got a sexual misconduct cover up and hes asking why the owner from barstool is suspended from games. smh. How much did Barstool pay him to ask that?

They didnt even grill goodell as hard as they couldve or as Florio had imagined

The Wall Street Journal's Andrew Beaton reports that the NFL will push for "an indefinite suspension that would last no shorter than one year" for Deshaun Watson.

Watson's hearing with the NFL will begin on Tuesday, and ultimate clarity may finally be coming for how we should proceed as fantasy managers with Browns players this season. All of the recent reporting we've seen has pointed to the NFL wanting Watson to be gone for at least a year. It sure sounds like the NFLPA is ready to fight a Watson suspension of any real length, so appeals seem likely no matter the initial decision. The momentum at this time definitely seems to be leading to an enormous personal conduct policy suspension for Watson.
