Im intruiged why we dont appear to have a single designated kicker, rather it seems we have any one of 3 or 4. Newy, houli, and griff all took turns, why is it so?

They probably don't want to waste time. A large problem for us is our kick-outs, so the closest of the 4 (Ellis too) would probably just do it as quick as possible so the opposition doesn't have as much time to get into structure.

To be honest, it doesn't really matter, they are all good kicks and will rarely cough it up.

The game these days is so fast and furious...i guess who ever makes it to the goal square after a point is scored is the designated kicker perhaps...

Might have something to do with predictability. Its probably different set plays depending on who kicks in. Griff long bomb, Houli often kicks to himself and then a quick ten meter run and kick wide, Newy often favors the corridor and my fav Ellis pin-points where ever he wants it to go. When he develops the footy smarts he will be a weapon at the kick in.

Griff will be awesome against Freo. Bang right over the entire team to a lose man like his first against the Hawks.

Would like to see Griffiths used as our release kick from defence more often this week. He could literally go from HB to FF in 1 kick.

But it wouldnt take long for the opp to work it out if it was used all the time. Players these days read the play like coaches and can dictate who and where it would go. Often you see the first player to the ball even if he is a regular kicker wait until a different player arrives.

On reading the play, i was intrigued to hear (Foley i think?) today waxing lyrical at how important Kingie is up forward as he is brilliant at reading the game and organising and directing the forward structure.

Fletch is a gun:thumbsu: and i couldnt imagine in my wildest dreams Griff playing for us at 37. Hope so, but not a chance.
If he does we will many flags. He is the key, I really mean it.

200cm 100kg+ mobile coordinated talented players that kick 70m don't grow on trees!

If only he can stay fit!

If they start running back, then we just run up the ground, he kicks short and we keep control of the ball til we're within 70, then give it back to Griffiths for a lazy 70m goal. ;)

Flawless.

I still remember back to the 09 draft and Shifer Sheehan saying if his shoulders hold up he could be the next Plugger Locket, not so much as a record goal kicker, but a beast who is immovable, lightning of the mark, unstoppable in the air and one of the games premier kicks. He said if he had perfect shoulders a top 4 pick would be where he was at.

If Griffiths is closest he should take it, otherwise he should be the target of the first kick. Can take a grab and then boot it to half forward.

Personally, I'd rather have Griff on the receiving end of the kickout (he can take a pretty good mark after all), and then turning around and depositing it in the fwd 50.

Mixing it up is good though.

Simple case of who's closest.
You don't wait for the umpire to wave the flags and roll a smoke anymore, you get things moving.
If you wait for Griff to run back 30 metres to the goal line, retrieve the ball and kick in, every avaialable player is manned up!
