Opinion Despite our current form and ladder position our intention should still be to contend for the 2021 Premiership

Not just the mids, I reckon our backline has underperformed as well. Missed some important players at stages and we haven't been able to get much continuity, which is so important for an organised defence.
In reality we are now only down two mids Shuey and Kelly (Well they are good but only 2) Our depth is horribly exposed.

We’ve always had an elite 22 but terrible depth (other than surplus tall forwards). Been the same for a few years now

We are still too good, and have enough home games, that we can't "tank" for a better draft pick. So what's the point of not going all out?

Our kids have had plenty of chances due to all the injuries, so not like we aren't playing them over old guys, so that's not an argument either.

Was actually surprised that we're only a game (and percentage...) out of the top 4.

The losses to St Kilda and Essendon have hurt our season so badly though. Win them with our injury list, even by a cumulative two points, and I'd be so bullish I'd get banned.

Just have to keep slugging it out like we did against Carlton, get players back, pray to Polly we don't cop any more injuries, hope a team in the top 4 falls off a cliff, have Richmond kicked out for bringing the game into dispute by being insufferable...

Yep, they hurt... but...

I was expecting us to lose likely a couple (even up to 3) of the games against Melbourne, Dogs, Richmond, Sydney and Brisbane in the back half of the year. If we somehow manage to go 4-1 through those games then it really would make up for the unexpected losses. Our destiny is still very much in our own hands, for all of the 'bad losses' we have had this year.

The loss that hurts for me is the Dogs game. We had them, and let it slip right at the end thanks to a Cripps brainfart and Bont being Bont and goaling on the run

Quite a few BFers have written about 2018 and the record No of newbies debuted. But it seems everytime somebody says play the yoof we get "nobody in WAFL is knocking the door down". We pick kids on talent and potential.I think that away win does more for a kids development than a year in WAFL,

Since 2018 GF we have had these players play their first game: Rotham, Hedwards, Ledwards, Winder, O Niel, Foley, Cameron & Williams. We had Brayshaw but not on the list. We have given quite a few games to other young players in: Waterman, Petch, O Allen & Brander. Every chance we get games into Trew & Johnson by the end of the year.

The lower down the ladder a team finishes, the slimmer their realistic chances become. But even from 8th spot the chances aren't zero.

Right now just making the 8 is far from a given.
But with good management and a bit less bad injury luck, by the back end of the season we should at least have a group that is capable of doing some real finals damage.
No reason whatsoever to stop trying to maximise what we can get out of this season. So much can happen between now and then.
Only once finals are out of the question should the focus shift away from just winning games.

How true. Currently only four points ahead of GWS (assuming they beat NM) with Rich, Foots and Syd next three games all with SFA of the cavalry arriving before then. Sure JK and OA will be important ins but getting the rest - Gov, Duggan, Witherden, Shuey, Kelly - will strengthen us immeasurably. But like Hurn, Ryan and Yeo they may take 1-3 games to be match fit and fully effective.

Means then we'd want to win pretty much every game (by a bit too) once they all return and hope those around 6-8th are losing. Right now one game and percentage (i.e. two games) from the top four with a severely depleted side facing Rich, Foots and Syd. it is not so much can we make top four but can we even stay in the eight? Tough ask.

PS: I would LOVE to be proved 110 per cent wrong.

Did the Season predictor from here on..
Regaining the Troops.
Shuey, Kelly, Gov, Witho, Shep & Petch
And Rioli X Factor i have Eagles finishing 3rd.
Only game that in history that looks iffy is Swans at SCG but with a big pile of Best 22 players in and some Gun Youth we can make it two Wins at the SCG in 1 year.

Demons have a very tough run home.
They lost a game to Crows.
Big Game vs Pies.
History shows clubs losing a coach mid season fire up and win 1st game after.
Attached Demons run home and what i think.
