Not sure we can fit all the players that want to come to St Kilda on our list, some of them might have to wait until next year.

Saints a destination club or just an open piggy bank?

TDK was a Saints supporter as a kid so he didn't just choose to come to St Kilda for the money, although that no doubt helped.

The same with JSOS who has a link to St Kilda with his Dad and talked about being part of our GF parades in 2009/10 as a kid.

C'mon everyone lets give the Saints a long overdue ball tickle

Let's not make this thread just about St Kilda

It's about destination clubs

The whole St Kilda thing is getting boring already this off season. This guy wants to pay for St Kilda.... that guy wants to play for St Kilda..... enough already.

Surely there's other destination clubs you can think of besides Brisbane, St Kilda etc?

The Saints, would have to be flag favorites tbh
Confirmed.

They have attracted real quality and seem to be a club where players looking to build a dynasty want to head.

It’s getting tough for other clubs to compete with them when they are keen on a player

Brisbane - Neale 2x brownlows, Dunkley 1x club BnF, Daniher, Charlie Cameron. Extremely talented list of ring ins.

Geelong - Dangerfield, J.Cameron, B.Smith. Enough said.

St Kilda - JSos, TDK, Flanders, Liam Ryan

Hard to go past the Saints with all that A.A level of recruitment they've been doing.

Everyone wants to play for one of the smallest clubs in the league with a tragic history. If not for the umpires I’m sure the Saints wouldn’t be broke hey?

St Kilda tops the list. The triple A rated talent they’ve been able to get through the doors on modest contracts is a credit to Ross and Fred Bassatt for turning the club around.

They’ve had so many players want to come to the Saints that they’ve even had to dog politely tell Leek Aleer we are full better luck next time.

Saints fans are in Essendon territory at the moment.

Definitely winning trade period. November Premiers.

The Saints likely just maxed out their cap.

Clubs can't do that every season bringing in multiple mature ages.

You’ve got a solid Prez now, so next step is moving on B. Scott and getting a proper coach, and then surround him with some real experience. I’d even take a look at Hird.

Right now, the real destination clubs would have to be the Lions, Suns, Freo, Crows, Pies, and Hawks.

You sicken me.

This trade period shows something different, seemed the saints are now seen as somewhere to be

Are they though? Or were they just in a position to overpay because of the salry cap they had "banked", and then had to do so on long contracts they might not be in a position for?

Its a risky strategy, but for a small club not necessarily a bad one. Its much harder to attract, and keep, top end talent at small clubs. The "bank and spend" might open a short premiership window when there may otherwise be no window at all. They need to be pushing for a flag inside two years though, or it could unravel badly when they have to balance against the cap and may struggle to retain their other players.
It comes with a big risk, but one I don't mind.
