I'd urge you to try it again if you find one with good stability and a low rate of fire. I've got a bunch of rare machine guns which have insane recoil but I'm still using an uncommon one that I found at launch because it's so steady and kills extremely quick. If I manage to use all my heavy ammo I'll get around 5 or 6 kills.

Easier to just use a rocket launcher with the Cluster Bomb perk.
