I can almost tolerate Alex Lloyds first record "Black The Sun" actually. Pete, Jack and friends (i wont include Ben Harper as at least he has some diversity of sound) i just dont get it im afraid. Why do all these 'cool' twenty somethings think this is the shxt? Have any of these clowns made a video for any of their singles that dont involve beaches, surfing etc?Come to think of it I saw a video on rage for 'Sexy' Pete and it was like cut from live footage and it basically had all these chicks carrying on as if the guy was the living reincarnation of Jeff Buckley or something. Once again, why dont these people just go and buy a Nick Drake record?

Testify! Can't stand this genre - boring as batsh*t. Ask yourself this - if Peter Murray was ugly, would he be selling any records? He is a performer of very limited talent who has got lucky because that style of music is 'cool' and he has a pretty face.

In 5 years time he'll be back at the Perserverance.

Someone please tell me im not the only one who finds this 'Surf and strum' genre of music to be amongst the worst music movements to ever have gained some form of critical acclaim. Pete Murray please do Australia a favor and go away and send in some real rock pigs on your way out.
My god it is shxxt.
Your username suits you ya f**kin mug!

Add John Mayer to that list.
Ditto Ryan Adams.

IMO they are all very very very bad imitations of the amazing Dave Matthews Band. Of the many differences, firstly DMB features supremely talented musos, he/they write far more interesting tunes and he tells a better story.... not to mention he has been doing it for years longer.

I guess some will argue Ben Harper is the bigger influence, and thats fair enough. But he is another dude i just dont quite get the attraction of. Live, yes his band put on a very tidy show. But i own 2 Bewn Harper albums and they bore me senseless. Maybe he is a muso who just cant get his vibe across overly well in a studio?

Either way, its a genre that doesnt necessarily offend me like some have so strongly expressed in this thread, but its not something i'd actively listen to. The whole Pete Murray thing in particular just baffles me.

What sort of music are you into Daicos?.
People can listen to what they like, but im afraid i just will never get this particular Pete Murray fella, with his hair like Justin Melvey off of Dancing With The Stars and suitbaly retro fitted t shirts, strumming away on some beach house porch set amongst the grey skies and crashing winter oceans. Throw in some surfer dudes in Andes beanies and designer woolens and the already cliched look is complete. Lets all get round the beach bonfire and drink some Heineikens guys. Enough already, this guy is a clown.
I thought we were the country that produced AC/DC for gods sake.

Ditto. Baffles & bores me...but doesn't make me quite cover my ears whilst screaming about the offensive noise.... :D

Like both Pete Murray and Jack Johnson.

Put them back 25-30 years ago and i wouldn't, but given the state of today's current music, it is refreshing to see two guys who are actually looking to get a note out of their guitar rather than just a noise.

here here.

Oh please. Dont just assume im some Sonic Youth style 12 minute feedback art ******** solo fan by the way.
But how can you honestly say you would be moved by say a whole concert of Pete and his repetitive sitting round the campfire nonsense.

Ryan Adams is frustrating. He can write a good song, but he releases so many things that plenty of filler gets through.

I never understood why people liked Ben Harper so much.
