The Lions interviewed ex-Texans GM Rick Smith for their general manager job.
Smith seems to be interviewing for nearly every open GM position, previously speaking with the Jaguars and Falcons. The Lions also interviewed former Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff and former Patriot and Chiefs executive Scott Pioli for the job.

Rams director of college scouting Brad Holmes will interview for the Lions and Falcons' general manager vacancies.
ESPN's Lindsey Thiry reports Holmes has emerged as one of the "top candidates for general manager vacancies across the NFL." Holmes, who turned 41 in July, has been in his current position for eight seasons going back to the Rams' time in St. Louis. Everyone wants a piece of the Sean McVay sheen. He has helped an organization low on first-round picks find a few mid-round gems in recent years, though every team turns up mid-round gems in the lottery that is the NFL draft.

"Golladay, 27, would prefer to test free agency and escape Detroit's inevitable rebuild but will likely get reluctantly slapped with the franchise tag this offseason. If able to test the waters, he'll likely garner a long-term deal in the range of $18-$20 million annually."

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the "Lions plan to pursue Seahawks GM John Schneider."
Already a GM of a vastly more successful and talented team than Detroit, Schneider doesn't seem to have any incentive to take the Lions gig at first. However, with the Seahawks, he doesn't have primary authority over personnel decisions. That role still belongs to HC Pete Carroll. More power and a big paycheck could lure Schneider away from the west coast back to his Midwestern roots but this move does seem unlikely. Rapoport noted that Schneider has been in lockstep with Carroll on personnel decisions so the increased role within the organization seems like a minor benefit to take on a far worse roster than he is currently working with. Seattle has an outside chance at the No. 1 seed in the NFC and a top-five QB in Russell Wilson. Internal candidates including personnel director Lance Newmark, VP of Player Personnel Kyle O'Brien, and pro scouting director Rob Lohman, who have all been interviewed for the job by Lions management, seem far more probable to be in the GM chair for Detroit at the start of the 2021 season.

NFL Network reports 49ers DC Robert Saleh is a "strong candidate" for the Lions' head-coaching job.
Saleh, 42 later this month, is a Michigan native. His star has faded a bit this coaching circuit following the 49ers' down season, but he's a legit defensive mind and motivator. The Lions are expected to run a wide search for their coaching job, having already interviewed interim coach Darrell Bevell and former Bengals coach Marvin Lewis for the position.

NFL Network reports the Lions interviewed Arizona State DC Marvin Lewis for their head-coaching vacancy Thursday.
Lewis, 62, wrapped up his first year as the Sun Devils' co-DC on Herm Edwards' staff. He spent 2019 out of coaching after getting fired by the Bengals following the 2018 campaign, where he spent 16 seasons. Lewis has interviewed in Dallas, Houston, and Detroit over the last two years. The Lions may be looking for a more experienced coach following the Matt Patricia disaster. But they're expected to cast a wide net over the next couple weeks.

Very good hire, guy has excelled at finding mid-late round gems

Lions hired former Rams director of college scouting Brad Holmes as general manager.
Detroit had also interviewed Colts assistant GM Ed Dodds before moving forward with the first (and primary) candidate on its list. The Rams will also become the first team to receive two third-round compensatory draft picks for Bradley as part of the NFL's new hiring initiatives. The two sides are reportedly finalizing a five-year deal after Holmes had been in his former position in Los Angeles for eight seasons. Holmes was also a finalist for Atlanta's GM role, setting the stage for Saints assistant GM Terry Fontenot to land there once New Orleans' postseason run comes to an end.

Another great hire, i be jumping on this bandwagon....

Lions hired Saints DBs coach Aaron Glenn as defensive coordinator.
New Lions coach Dan Campbell's hiring has yet to even be officially announced, but word of his staff is already leaking. Glenn and Campbell coached alongside each other in New Orleans over the past five years. 48 years old, Glenn took some time off following the end of his 15-year career in 2008, but he has been a quick riser through the coaching ranks after leaving the Jets' scouting group in 2014. Glenn spent 2014-15 with the Browns before landing in New Orleans. He has developed on one of the league's top coaching staffs over the past half decade. It's an exciting hire, but Glenn has extremely little to work with in the Lions' Matt Patricia-gutted defense.

Lions hired Dan Campbell as head coach.
It's a six-year deal for Campbell. The Lions were locked in on Campbell as their next head coach but needed to wait for the Saints to be eliminated from the playoffs. Detroit is breaking away from their Patriots model under Matt Patricia for Campbell, who was Sean Payton's top assistant the last five years. A players coach and motivator, Campbell will be tasked with rebuilding an offense that broke down in the second half of 2020. Campbell's coordinator hires, with Saints DB coach Aaron Glenn expected to serve as his defensive playcaller, will be the key to his success in Detroit.

6 years, holy sh*t. That's a big contract for a guy who wasn't exactly the most in demand coach this off-season. You better hope you're right.

Lions head coach Dan Campbell said he wants to use RB D'Andre Swift as a slot receiver.
After elaborating on how his Lions will "bite off" the kneecaps of their opponents -- among other medieval torture techniques -- the new Detroit head coach said he wants an offensive coordinator who will get Swift in space against linebackers, including using him in the slot. An excellent pass catcher, Swift excelled as the team's primary pass-catching back late in the 2020 season, catching 46 of 57 targets for 357 yards and two touchdowns. Swift's best game of the season was in Week 10 against Washington, when he exploited defensive mismatches and caught all five of his targets for 68 yards and a score. Swift would transform into a PPR force if the team commits to the shifty back in such a role.

Lions hired ex-Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn as their offensive coordinator.
Lynn, fired by the Chargers at season's end, was reportedly considered by several teams in need of an OC, including the Lions and Seahawks. A former running backs coach, Lynn's Chargers averaged 111.5 rushing yards per game under Lynn despite a spate of injuries at the position in 2020. Lynn went 33-31 in four seasons with the Chargers, going 1-1 in the postseason. Before coaching the Chargers, Lynn served as running backs coach with the Jets, then as offensive coordinator in Buffalo after the team parted ways with Greg Roman. Lions head coach Dan Campbell said this week that he wanted an offensive coordinator who would get D'Andre Swift into favorable matchups as a pass catcher. Lynn's history would suggest he can do just that.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero said the Lions and Matthew Stafford have agreed to part ways this offseason.
It appears the team won't fight to keep Stafford aboard for a full rebuild. Pelissero reports Stafford and the team made a mutual decision that the Lions would trade away their franchise QB this offseason after 12 seasons. QB-needy teams like the 49ers, Washington, Panthers, Colts, Jets, and Broncos will probably show interest in acquiring Stafford, though the Lions' price isn't known. Stafford has two years and $43 million left on his contract, "a bargain price for a quarterback who is still playing at a high level," Pelissero said. Stafford will be a marked upgrade for the pass catchers on whichever team he lands on this offseason. Detroit is (very) likely to use their No. 7 NFL draft pick to select Stafford's successor, and perhaps move up even further to secure one of the draft's top signal callers. The trade would likely happen before the fifth day of the 2021 league year in March, when Stafford is due a $10 million roster bonus.

After trading Tate and Slay, I’m a bit surprised it didn’t happen last year when the opportunity to take Tua/Herbert at 3 was there. It’s not like there was going to be some upward form tick under Patricia. Golladay out next?

We can franchise tag Golladay. Would seem reasonable course of action.

Why would you franchise tag him, sign him to an extension. Young QB going to need some good receivers.

Cos he was rumored to want out during the year, pursue bigger contracts in free agency, a contender, etc. So Lions would presumably FT him.
Didn't hear about that.

Just chuck a huge amount of money at him and try and make him happy that way. Can afford it with a qb on a rookie contract.
