I wonder who will beat you in the ECF this year.

We have overrated them because they have played in a weak conference. They would have been a 5-8 these past few years had they played in the West.

They're 100-48 against the west in the last 5 years, and 5-5 against your Mavs.

In fact, I'd say they're the East's Mavs - regular season specialists who are a clutch player short in the playoffs (although obviously Pistons did win one title).

Big rumour being reported that the Nuggets have offered AI for Billups (and I think McDyess to make salaries match).

I think Denver win that one, in the short term at least.

I posted this in the week one thread but in case none of you catch it.
I know its hoopsworld but its a rumour/tentative agreement apparently:

Report: Nuggets deal Iverson to Pistons for Billups

DETROIT (Ticker) -- Allen Iverson apparently is headed from the Mile High City to Motown.

The Denver Nuggets have reached a tentative agreement to trade Iverson to the Detroit Pistons for Chauncey Billups and Antonio McDyess, according to a report posted Monday morning by Detroit-based web site MLive.com.

Neither team commented on the report when contacted by PA SportsTicker.

Iverson, a four-time league scoring champion and nine-time All-Star, would join a Pistons team that has lost in the Eastern Conference Finals each of the last three seasons.

The 33-year-old Iverson has spent parts of the last three seasons in Denver since being acquired in a blockbuster deal with the Philadelphia 76ers in December 2006.

Billups, 32, has been a key member of a Detroit franchise that won the NBA title in 2004 and has advanced at least as far as the Eastern Conference Finals each of the last six seasons.

McDyess, 34, began his 13-year career with the Nuggets and has spent the last four-plus seasons with the Pistons.

A little info on AI for all Detroit fans.

As a guy who have seen every single of his game last season, the guy can flat out score, an average defender and a willing passer.

Don't get caught by those misconception about Iverson.

Positives about AI
QuickKnows how to score in the paint.
Attacks the rim everytime its open (and I mean everytime, doesn't matter if the dude in the 3-point area is free)
Warroir

Negatives about AI
Doesn't pass in the pick and roll, since he doesn't have that vision and his defender is normally taller than him that he cant get the ball quick enough over the out stretch their hands.
Doesn't defend the pick and rolls very well.
Silly turn-overs

-------

According to Karl himself, his a model citizen when played for him during his time with Denver.

Oh and don't except AI to practice very much (unless its really important) if you guys are willing to play him 40 minutes a night. Karl lets him rest during practice since his playing a 33 year old veteran 42 minutes a game.

To the Pistons fans on here, although it's very early, are you getting what you expected from Amir Johnson?

Yes. He's coming along steadily, in particular has been playing some good D.

Plenty of work still ahead, but early signs are good. You'll see more improvement as he grows in confidence and gets more involved out on the floor.

He got absolutely torched by Devin Harris today.

Am I the unhappy with the A.I trade? Personally I don't think the team doesn't gel as well as you have to creative SG but not a traditional PG. As well as that by trading McDyess there's a big gap left in the centres

Surprised this one hasn't been bumped yet seeing as they just went into LA and knocked off the Lakers. Great win...they looked good too.

If you saw the first quarter of today's game you may change your opinion. Billups is a gun but he just can't do the things Iverson can. Sure, sometimes he jacks up a lot of shots but when he gets on a roll the guy is almost unstoppable.

I completely understand why the Pistons pulled the trigger on that deal and after watching them in action today it's looking like a good move. Billups has been great in Denver but Iverson just gives the Pistons that extra dimension and makes them a lot more dangerous IMO.

Next three games will be tough - at Phoenix, home to Cavs then at Boston.

yep, AI is dangerous. not sure if he suits the det offence but pistons ball = no egos, no complaining about a lack of shots. i mean hamilton didnt get much today and everyone got theirs. prince, wallace, rip dont care how many shots they get and it suits AI.

They should be able to beat Phoenix. Kwame on an in-form Shaq will be interesting to see. They cant let Sheed get into foul trouble, so the front court matchup will be the difference. AI should be able to torch Nash.

The Cavs and Celts will be much harder games. If AI can get it going against Mo Williams (easy) and Rondo (not so easy) they will be in good stead. Much will come down to Princes ability to stop James and Pierce. He is in damn good form of late, so hoping he can shut them down.

Nash served his suspension in their OT win today over Sacramento. He will be good to go against the Pistons.

Point Guards scoring has been a big problem for us. So Iverson vs. Nash will be very interesting to watch. Hopefully Nash comes out fired up after his suspension though with Barnes and Barbosa still out, were short at the 2 and 3 for options. With Prince and Hamilton, the big men are the important matchup as someone above said.

Hoping for a good game with no brawls lol
I should be studying though i'll be keeping a close eye on scores.

Fantastic win although not sure how far we can read into it. Not taking anything away from them but Sheed just does not do that often enough. I'd love to see Detroit's winning % when he is 20/10, must be devastating.

Good to see AI playing within the offense. Twenty five points from 12 shots is fantastic efficiency.

He did the same the other day. No one pays attention to him when he scores 25+, thinking he jacked up 20 shots. He has been playing very well recently..really controlled. And he only had 1 turnover today..and that was really late in the game

Can I also point out the issue with him not suiting the offense. The Pistons today are a higher quality version of the Sixers in 00/01. The Sixers, when they made the Finals were defensively based around Mutumbo, who won DPOY, Mackie, who was solid...and Snow. All solid defenders, while Iverson lead them in scoring. The same thing with Detroit. Prince is defensively minded...Sheed is solid. They allow Iverson to flow in O. That is why Dumars and the Piston organisation accept the deal. They saw Iverson as that elite scorer that can push them over the line in close games. Despite my hatred fot the Pistons, I can only see this as making them stronger. AS soone as Iverson has fitted in...Detroit has looked very good. Never really looked in trouble today against the undefeated Lakers. I think anything but a trip to the Conference finals should be considered a failure this season.

Definately agree with that. Expectations for this season have definately lifted. Sheed seems to be playing with real passion, and the new offense is suiting Prince to a tee. He is handling the ball a lot more, and he is quite hard to guard. Plus he is knocking them down at the moment, been on fire his last 5. :thumbsu:

The only potential problem I can see for the Pistons is a lack of quality big men to give Sheed a spell.

Kwame actually looked good against the Lakers, despite his hands of stone, and if he can give them that type of effort over the course of the season it will hold the team in good stead. The only problem being that he's Kwame Brown so eventually he will revert back to his former self. All they need him to do is rebound, play D and put in the easy baskets when he gets the opportunity but I don't think he can be trusted.

Rumour has it that they have McDyess in their sights but so do about 18 other teams and while it would be huge to get him back I still think they need another capable 7 footer in the rotation. Sheed is undersized when he has to play the 5 as well so if they can get someone else in there to help out at that position they will be extremely tough.

Dice will be back. I tihnk they have offered him about $1.5 million for the season and he is happy to take it. He wants to finish his career in Detroit. Team looks a lot better with him in it too. Sheed and Dice to start, Kwame, Maxiell and Johnson rotating. Its deep, and everyone is giving you something different.
