Surman, anyone?

I have also been a Surman follower. He is still only 19, very new to the game of AFL, and probably touching 200 cm - listed at197. He is one of our tall youngsters who I believe is ready to show us that he is worth persevering with, and 2018 could be his break out season.

Surman, anyone?

Tentative but very excited.

Injuries cruelled his preseason last year and a lack of tank meant that he couldn't run out games. His games averaged from invisible to OK when he was learning his craft as a ruck/forward. Marking was always a standout. Everything else wasn't.

Then he got moved into the backline this year, the position he played before he was drafted. And geez he looks impressive. Reads the ball extremely well and goes for his marks in the air. Isn't afraid to commit himself and marks more often than spoil. Didnt play on the weekend due to soreness but was forming a very good partnership with Nash. Key position size. If he continues on the same trajectory he should be elevated.

I hope that he improves enough to be elevated. I envision him to be a KPD with Lake type qualities ie: goes for and takes mostly marks, reads the play well & has a bit of mongrel in him. Geez if he and Nash come on then that would be a gorilla back line to work with. Thx for the info guys :thumbsu:

With all of our young uns I'm a bit like Doris Day by having High hopes.
Even if my expectations are a little unrealistic, it is great to see players reach their potential.

It does give us hope for the future, even if our glasses are somewhat rose coloured.

What's going on with Sicily - dropped twice this year despite okay form. I get the feeling it's about on-field attitude, which is backed up by that footage of Burgoyne having a go at him - Sic wasn't even listening.

The kid needs game time though - it's a difficult balance.

I don't have links, and I haven't actually seen anything with Rough - but on Monday's AFL 360 they showed a clip of Burgoyne reading him the riot act after he gave away a downfield free kick.

He doesn't need game time, he needs to earn game time.
One of the strengths at Hawthorn over the last decade is players aren't just given games they earn them. His attitude was terrible in the game and he has been poor anyway for the last few weeks.

There have always been players to have thumbed this rule.
The great Rough has had plenty of stretches where he's been, err, quiet.
Schoe has played for structure more than performance for at least half his games.
This year, you could point your finger at 4-5 'star' players that have given questionable input over a number of games but don't seem likely to be dropped.

Truth is, the kid simply doesn't have enough in the bank to carry him through lean games.
It's pretty obvious a couple of posters have never been fans and like to pot, and others are quick to jump on.
Ah well, may be he's getting set up to be trade bait at the end of the season.:(

There'll be a few like that I imagine, and we may not need as many picks as thought to bring in fresh faces.

Last game was a bit quiet but still took one or two strong marks. I don't think he's really been dropped for form reasons.

We might find out tomorrow that he hasn't been dropped at all...

I think it's just sunk in that TOB has leap frogged him and he's getting frustrated.

Expectations on TOB need to be tempered, and people also forget the season Sic had last month and how he impacted games. TOB hasn't leaped frogged him, but certainly the noticeable gap between the 2s development has evened up.

I have hopes both can form a pretty decent combo in the forward line.

Didn't look good. Rough talking to a group & he wasn't happy & pulled away with a poor look on his face. Hodgey mighta punched him then & there!
Pretty damn confident its his attitude thats keeping him out of the side.

Is he a better prospect than Lisle?
