I personally don't rate Smith but can't see him going to cats.He wants to play midfield,Danger,Selwood,Ablett,Duncan,Guthrie, then probably him.Not sure.

Those blokes are all inside mids (which he isnt if he plays mid it's wing). Our only real winger is motlop and he is going. Plenty of room for smith.

Geelong have put a contract to him and have the pick to get it done on day 1 of the trade period.

Carlton have more cash (and they will need it he won't choose them unless they offer more money) but neither they or collingwood have a 2nd rounder this year. I suppose they could trade a 2018 2nd rounder but that's about it.
2018 2nd rounder from Pies should do it.

Tough deal this one.

A decent player but not a player a club should cost themselves much in attaining. Fits behind other targets in each clubs queue.

2nd rounder (22-28) to clubs wanting to bring him in. GWS probably want 18-22 for him.

Rather Carlton focus its interests on M Kennedy.

A great talent but is obviously ailed by his knee which seems to have some ongoing / degenerative concerns, putting his future output under some cloud. If he was injury free he'd be sought after by every club in the league.

Happy to have him at a cheap cost or part of a package deal with Kennedy and/or Griffen (only for salary dump-discount) but would rather not give up too much at all for him and hope we pass if the price isn't right.

Have loved Carlton's creativity and ability to make deals happen for us over the past couple of seasons and am looking forward to seeing how things unfold again this year.

Unfortunately for GWS Smith's value may have diminished as a result of his knee. Giants fans will say it isn't an issue but there's enough speculation to put off some clubs. Time will tell

He toured Essendon's facilities today and we seem to be in the race. Not sure what will get the job done, but I'm guessing a second rounder will suffice.

Why would we do that? We get this is just pretendies. Believe me his knee has worried us a lot more than you in the last couple of years.
My fear is we'll get a low trade price and he'll star at his new club, but I'd want him to well wherever he goes.

No. 2 jumper at our club I suspect is earmarked for Ben Silvagni.
Harry McKay already has number 10 so reckon Dev will have to take number 18 or 19 next year here.

Talking number jumpers already, must be confident.

A very early second sounds like his value imo?

It feels like that. Around the 18-20 mark theoretically, but probably down to 25 might get the deal done without stuffing around.

Surprised his manager mentioned 4 clubs and Geelong weren't one of them at all. Cats must be just concentrating on Gaz and Stringer only now.

Devon Smith has a dodgy knee at 24yo. Out of the 4 clubs his manager mentioned, only Collingwood don't play regularly at Etihad. Like Jaegar O'meara, i wonder if Devon might choose an MCG club.

Devon Smith with Kennedy as a package, we are probably looking at something around pick 15 to get the job done or something equal to that in a future round pick.

Last year to get Marchbank and Pickett we gave up a future 1st round pick we got off Geelong in an earlier deal. Devon Smith is going to increase the price on that I would think.

Personally I had my eye on him for a good 2 to 3 years as someone would love to have play for our club.
When GWS started out Dev Smith and Dylan Shiel just stood out as mid types that could kick a classy goal or two. Dev been playing as a high half forward and Shiel got the midfield role.

Have no doubt Devon Smith can become a gun mid if given lots of time in there.
