Traded Devon Smith [traded to Essendon]

Well done to Bombers, surely the difficult trading tag is being shook after this and Hibberd last year

He's gone full nuff, no chance Essendon does anything with 2 second rounders right? Zach Merrett does not exist in Dwaynes world
I like this post!

Sorry, I didn't realise that you were at the trade table with them, here I was going by the opinions of those in the know.
How about you open the other eye.
Well done to them on this occasion but please don't embarrass yourself by pissing out the window and expecting people to believe it's raining. Contrary to what you may believe, popular opinion is that they are far from angels to deal with.
Tell that to the Melbourne Football Club. The reputation within the industry nowadays is the exact opposite.

But as longs as fools like you lap up things that Damien Barrett says, well...

Win win trade for me

Essendon get their player, and pick up a 2nd rounder and a 3rd round to 2nd round pick upgrade to mitigate their losses.
GWS get into the mid first round, helping them potentially replace Smith's talent

Actually, they are. Like most clubs, quite good to deal with.

It's the overly emotional rabbles like the Dogs that are painful.

At the risk of turning it into a fap thread, Dodoro's work over the past few years given the cards he's been dealt (loss of draft picks, contracted players wanting out) has been absolutely brilliant. It's amazing what he's been able to do with the list.
This game is about winning finals and Essendon have the longest streak in the AFL without winning one.

Wasnt the originally proposed offer pick 28?
11 for smith and 24 I think
I believed it was offered to us but we were still working on 11 for saad and 19

I'm far happier with this deal than any other proposed
1- we get smith
2 - our second Rd pick position improves quite a bit
3 - happier for gws to have 11 than the other 2 clubs

Are those in the know at the trade tables too? Cos all I've ever heard in quotes from list managers is dodoro is fine to work with

This deal was really good and it makes it quite simple to get Saad I would have thought.

Pick #24 straight up probably sounds about right (maybe a little bit of to and fro) but its certainly in the ballpark.

That will be 2 of the proposed trade's done which will greatly reduce the pressure on the Bombers.

If Saad played in Victoria you would be saying pick 15 would be about the mark. He's a great lockdown defender who also had the most running bounces in the league.

I'm very keen as Saad is a HUGE upgrade on Baguely.

Saad's biggest issue is his defensive work IMO. He's decent on a second small forward but I wouldn't put him on a Betts or Greene.

Essendon got a pretty good deal IF you rate Devon Smith.

IF however, you rate him like i do, then it's a bit meh . This was me in September when it looked likely he was coming to Carlton:

On Devon Smith, i am not fussed about him. I think he is overrated, overpaid and under performed. I would prefer Rockliff, and Rockliff has the added advantage of being free. I would personally prefer Smith to nom and go to Geelong but it seems that we are in with a big chance.

And as Cal Twomey is currently saying on radio, Smith doesn't solve any of Essendons problems.

You have no idea how happy I am reading that (and not because it's Essendon either). :)

Is this the deal?

https://www.draftguru.com.au/pick-value-calculator#Smith,24,33|11,47

GWS's second this year is 33 so assume it's the same next year. Essendon's third this year is 47 so assume it's the same next year.

In that case it values Smith on draft points at the equivalent of pick 49?

Seems a fantastic deal for Essendon to get two decent second rounders for a mid first rounder and a third rounder - with a player thrown in.

Agree with 1 & 2 but if your entering a premiership window GWS getting pick 11 will make them stronger. From no 1st round pick to pick a 11. Giving 11 to the lowly Suns was your best result imo.

I reckon Essendon will regret this in time.

Bonar or Brayshaw would of been perfect for their midfield.

Instead they got another half forward, which they havean abundance of.

I could be wrong but pretty sure he held both Betts and Greene goaless earlier this year. If not goaless he definitely kept the quiet.
