Traded Devon Smith [traded to Essendon]

No, he clearly outlined that assumption of ladder position. He clearly qualified his statement with that flaw clearly disclosed.

He basically did the maths based on the father son points system. And the maths confirms general consensus,Adelaide got the better of the lever deal and Essendon got the better of the smith deal.

The problem he is talking about points you can’t judge until a “Player “ picked finishes their career

What if Smith does ACL never plays again ...

Disagree that it is dependent on the player picked. It is really dependent on the players available at that pick and later. Two recruiters could take two different players who are available, the different outcomes shouldn't change the way the trade is viewed. What does is draft strength, and the merits of the trade itself.

Brilliant piece of business by Adrian Dodoro and the Bombers.

Our supporters thought it would be a simple second rounder for Devon Smith only, to recieve not only one, BUT TWO second rounders as well for pick 11 shows the moniker of Essendon being hard to deal with is in fact wrong but more Adrian Dodoro being an astute businessman who scrapes every last bit of value.

Move on to Adam Saad and leave the Dogs to pay a bloke they don't want next year

Per Terry Wallace on SEN, by the points system, the deal is effectively pick 55 in this year's draft for Devon Smith.

Incidentally, he said, using the same points system, the Dees picked up Lever for pick 4 in this year's draft.

Not really sure that it means all that much.

We were talking about this very subject on the Essendon D&T thread on our board.

The points system is the biggest load of rubbish to quantify the general publics opinion of a trade. In no way shape of form Devon Smith worth pick 55. Looking at it the other way around, pick 11 is worth 3 shots at a 100 game player (Devon Smith + pick 24 + 2018 second rounder).

Pick 11 is a very good shot at picking a 100 game player.

As for Terry Wallace? He's a flog, as someone just mentioned, the biggest self promoter in football. He may know his $#i!! but let the facts do the talking.

GWS are clearly good to deal with. They wanted a first round pick and they got it whilst we got the player that wanted to come to us.

Must admit, the Giants have been one of the easiest clubs to deal with since their inception. The GWS seconds [Carlton] is testament to the dealings and way they run their football club.

Don't get too cocky. The reality is that Essendon haven't won a final or had real success for a long time. In the end, a list managers (astute businessman) job is judged on team performance.

Pick 11.

Terry Wallace? He's a flog.
Pick 11 in the 10 years to 2014 (the more recent drafts are too soon):

2014: Liam Duggan
2013: Dom Sheed
2012: Troy Menzel
2011: Toby Greene
2010: Tom Lynch
2009: Jordan Gysberts
2008: Steele Sidebottom
2007: Patrick Veszpremi
2006: Andrejs Everitt
2005: Shaun Higgins

2 definite fails (Veszpremi & Gysberts) with a probable 3rd fail (Menzel).

What kind of algorithm did Wallace use to work out the 2018 picks value? I should call him to ask for the lotto numbers.

One look at the mans draft history as a coach, should immediately cause the listener to turn off.

He is big on emphasis and light on content. A snake oil salesman.

You wish North were in a position to give overs for someone.

We're shopping for caviar, not sausage rolls.

Good luck with Smith. I reckon you paid a fair price.

Great get Bombers. If the Saints had that deal for pick 8 I would have been loving it.

Will be interested to see how the team sets up with so many mid/forward options coming through (Begley, Langford, Laverde) as well as the additions of Smith and Stringer to go with best 22 players in Fantasia, Tippa, Merrett, Zaka... Certainly a wealth of options.

Pick 11 for two second rounders is a pretty good deal on its own. ...almost break even without a player thrown in!

Smith came pretty cheap whichever way you assess it. Not sure why people are so up in arms for Wallace spending a few minutes crunching the father son points numbers just for the fun of it.

Trouble is, caviar is very hard to get. (We also tried). Good teams build their list from the draft and from trades. It looks like something Essendon have finally worked out.

We have done the same thing, it's just that we haven't been able to land the picks to draft a Martin (3) or a Kelly (2), so we had to try and trade.

I'm very happy with what we have from the picks we have had.

Not sure thats something to brag about if you cant find any caviar

We very narrowly missed out on the best player of the season, after a last minute dash and contract adjustment by his current clubs football manager, and we have now reset the dials as a result.

Kelly is on lay-by.

Off to the 2017-18 drafts we go. I expect we will be landing what we need from there.
