Yep.

For some reason he thinks i mentioned it too though. Probably not even close to the worst of the things he has wrong though.

He guessed one thing right years ago and fels he is the oracle (re Essendon) now.

Uh well, we landed A graders not potential young kids we hope will be A graders.

He is probably Essendon’s best player.
Great to see him get an opportunity in the midfield and show the comp that’s where he belongs.

A good honest player but AA too big an ask given the players out there.

Top 3 over the last 10 weeks
Best over the season for mine.

Has not stopped trying, chasing, tackling, harassing.
He's an excellent addition to our 22. Of the 3 S's, he was the one i was happiest about when we got him

Saad and Stringer have been excellent as well

People want to see pure stats though. He doesn't average 30, or kick a goal a game. His impact is more than that

#1 pressure player in the game
that's enough for me. For a team that was so beaten up around the ball in 2017, Smith has led the charge. And behind him, the likes of Heppell, Langford, Myers, Zaka, Parish last night, and Guelfi have followed.

Ive been impressed by our midfields ability to play contested pressure football since the carlton loss.

He is your Ben Jacobs. Averages 20 as well and every bit as important as Smith is to ess. But I shook my head when Roo posters mentioned him as an AA before injury. 20 touch mids aren’t AAs. No matter what they bring to each team.

Big chance. He is a lock for the squad but the midfield usually only has 9 in it and that makes it tough. But he is right in the mix. You honestly think Smith is as good a mid as Heppell this year?

I think they're very close, They compliment each other well.

Look none of us are saying Smith is a best 22 lock in the AA side, I don't even think many are saying he's a lock for the 40, All of us are saying he surely needs consideration, He's been fantastic all year.

I think it'll just come down to where you finish the season to whether he makes the squad or not. If you play finals they'll pick him if not no chance imo.
Murphy last year had something like 17 games where he was in the coaches votes and couldn't make it. Put that record in a top side and they pick them, same will happen with Smith

The thing with Smith compared to Jacobs? Smith tries to be involved in the play. Bounces, tackles, legally negating the opposition not just scraggin away like most one dimensional taggers who couldn't make it as a ball gather.

To date, Heppell has been the better midfielder by AA metrics, but Smith has been the better player overall for the team.

I think a few posters get very confused between "Great SuperCoach choice" and "All-Australian contention".

Has had a great season, finally got some consistency with his body and was a great pick up by Essendon. Should be cherry ripe for a big 2019.

Very doubtful to make the squad as a mid due to sheer numbers of players ahead of him, having better seasons. Maybe as a half-forward he makes the initial squad?? Even then...

They both average the same amount of touches. They both chase those that can actually win it.

1 tags 1 player the other tags the team.

Smiths disposal vs Jacobs disposal. Oooh tough call. I'd love to trade his terrific disposal and goals for a player that has never had a notable offensive impact. Smith doesn't tag at all, he's just defensively accountable and puts on a lot of pressure. There is no such thing as 'tagging the team'. Jacobs is your typical tagger from a decade ago. Good for sides that don't want to put the onus on their entire midfield to be defensively accountable.

i was happy when he chose Bombers over pies as i really didnt want him... upon reflection i was wrong wouldn't mind him running around for us

Yeah I thought he was utter trash. Well, not utter trash but barely a top 15 player in a top side but I’ll happily cop that I was wrong there. He’s very good.

midfield spots are always hard.

Mitchell, Cripps and Oliver will get guernseys.
Gaff on a wing.

Leaves one wing spot, 2x HFFs and maybe a deep forward spot for a Danger or Martin.
Plus 3 on the bench.

For the likes of Danger, Martin, Pendles, Higgins, Macrae, etc.
