So you're saying you wouldn't take Plowman, Marchbank, Pickett or Smith?Three things in life are certain

Of course they were, it was a slight dig that's all.So you're saying you wouldn't take Plowman, Marchbank, Pickett or Smith?
Yeah a few of them have flopped but they were mostly worth the gamble
Sounds like a trade to Carlton is most likely according to afl.com.au
What is he worth? 2018 second rounder?

We do not have a second rounder.
Probably will be one of those trades to involve 3 or more clubs and GWS get the pick they want from another club. Think Devon Smith worth around pick 15 but can probably get him for around pick 20. I do not think GWS can keep him and be under the cap so they will know they need to trade him anyway so might have to take a pick lower than he worth. Them needing to sign up Kelly, Hopper and Smith was always going to lead to a good player ending up at another club.
Tom Mitchell left Sydney for around pick 14. Hawks got pick 23 for Brad Hill.
Devon Smith in terms of value is somewhere in between.
True. That may do it.You have a 2018 second rounder.
True. That may do it.
Personally I would do that trade.
How concerning are his knee issues? Are they just an innocuous injury or is it Jaeger O'Meara territory?
You're logic is a bit flawed in my view. We will not be kicking Smith out the door. We may struggle.to pay him what he's on under the cap. He's made it very clear he wants to stay, and no doubt the club wants him.We do not have a second rounder.

I don't think he's that flash. He's definitely not worth a first rounder. Something in the early twenties is about bang on, IMO.I don't really get the hype for Smith - is he a midfielder or forward? He averages 1 goal a game and 18.5 touches which isn't amazing in either area. I personally think he's hiding behind the hype that Shiel, Cameron, Coniglio etc. received during their development.
Why not? We have about as much cash as North Melbourne so we have to spend it somewhere. Rockliff is the only free agent we are after and his salary will pretty much replace Gibbs' who is looking likely to leave.I don't think he's that flash. He's definitely not worth a first rounder. He wants to play midfield. The AFL is reporting $550,000 p.a. is about the going rate. I can't see my mob going for that. Carlton on the other hand will.
It is your comprehension and therefore view that is flawed. It is not kicking him out. It is very simple. He does not fit under the salary cap for his worth now that Kelly and Hopper are signed up. He will go where he can play more midfield role he wants and get paid more in line with his worth. I have always felt for last 18 months we could get him or Hooper based on the salary cap restrictions that would come into play. You're logic is a bit flawed in my view. We will not be kicking Smith out the door.
He's said unquivocably he wants to stay, and certainly wouldn't be the first to stay for less. That said if he wants to go for more I'm fine with it. Your assessment of 80% chance he goes is meaningless though. It is your comprehension and therefore view that is flawed. It is not kicking him out. It is very simple. Turns out it is Smith is the one that can be got for the right price. It is very straight forward really.
That does not mean he is gone from GWS for sure as he could always stay for way unders but at this point I reckon 80% chance he is not staying for unders and will go.
At his best he is a match winner and can do anything. If you were looking at the long game a club may take the punt to secure him as bait for when his best mate comes out of contract.
I think he's a good fit for Carlton. I wouldn't mind having Smith for one of our second rounders, but we aren't going to have 550K or a regular midfield spot. Why not? If Dev wants Geelong he'll have to play for unders and be told to play as a small forward. Carlton will offer him more cash and time in the midfield.

Add in the fact he has both eyes at goals all the time. Though did improve that part of his game this year.I don't really get the hype for Smith - is he a midfielder or forward? Hey Devon,
Your name autocorrects to Devine,
Which rhymes with forwardline,
Which Essendon will only play you,
A quarter of the time.
