I've been a big fan of Smith in the past (he's looked like Boomer Harvey Mk II in the making during 2014-2015), but what was wrong with him this season? Was it just injuries? Seems like he never really got going (had a bit of a disappointing 2016 as well), and getting to the point of being dropped before the finals did his value (either to GWS or another club) absolutely no favours.

If I were GWS or other clubs, I'd have questions over his mental make-up if it was a case of him mentally "checking out" due to possibly leaving at the end of the year. You've got a best 22 spot in a top 4 side that you've grown up with, if you just stay fit and focused. Is the pull of playing in Victoria really that strong that you'll throw that away?

He's been injured.

Yeah, last two years he just hasn't had a clear run at consistent games, and it hurt him in the run up to finals this year. We had enough suspect players in the forward line heading into finals with the injury toll (Greene's ribs & Stevie J, Lids, Taranto & Smith) and just too much to play all. Arguably, the ones we played anyway cost GWS something in the PF. At his best, Dev is dynamic.

Apparently certain people have blurted out that he prefers Collingwood because he is good friends with Turnover Adams. One even came out saying that he has a good relationship with Buckley.

What relationship?

If it's true that he wants more midfield time he isn't going to get it there, since the list is practically flooded with midfielders and others that can push into the middle. Thought pies would also know better than throwing themselves at any available player that doesn't fit their current requirements.

Is this a "he genuinely prefers Collingwood" thing, or a "we'll tell people Collingwood are interested to drive his price up" thing?

Devon Smith has already brought a house in Victoria. I'll be surprised if he's not at the Cats next month.
Not just any old house either.

Why does Big Footy have an obsession with where people buy houses?

Mitch Hahn bought a house in Townsville when he was playing AFL, did anyone ever state then that he was a lock to change codes and play for the Crocodiles in the NBL?

I understand that Big Footy is for the lowest of the low when we're talking social status and brain power, but there is this thing that people do when they earn a lot of money. They, now hear me out and try and play along, they... "invest" their money. A popular form of "investment" at the moment is in "property"

Property is cheaper to "buy" in Melbourne than it is in Sydney. If said "investor" is from Victoria it is more probable than not, that they will buy a house (or houses) in the state from which they are from.

It has absolutely sweet FA to do with where they see their future employment.

You know the club ain't thinking straight when they decide to chuck Treloar at half back, Sidebottom full foward and Maynard in the centre circle.

This is only further supporting my point. Collingwood doesn't need Devon Smith. They need a proper small running HBF and another KP.

Yep. Million dollar property.

heck! Do they have million dollar properties in West Geelong?

Doesn't seem like a good investment. Must have 8 swimming pools or something.
