Traded Devon Smith [traded to Essendon]

Essendons targetting is strange to the point of staggering.

A 6ft 2 HF to go along with Laverde, Langford, Begley, Stewart etc

and

A small forward/small mid to go along with Fantasia, Tippa, Greeny/ Zach,Parish,McGrath, Heppell, Colyer

It's like Dodoro is determined to trade just to try and prove he can.

Are these not the exact 2 types of player that you don't need?

Nope

It will give us a deep midfield rotation that can all go forward

I'm sure whichever club he chooses would be able to throw in a 3rd or 4th rounder on top. I don't think it will be a huge issue.

He's a talented player but hasn't done enough to warrant a first round selection. Not from any of the clubs chasing him anyway.
Honestly on his form at the end of last year, I think a pick around 10 would be right. This year 18-20. There is a fitness issue and it's hard for amateurs to assess.
From our point if view I'm worried we'll trade him cheap and his knee will be sorted and he'll look like a gift in a year or too, although I wish him success.

I'm sad he has to go. I believe his repeated statements he wanted to stay through the year, and I saw frustration on his face when Kelly was discussed earlier in the year. I think his option was to take less for his new contract or find someone to pay him in the style he's accustomed. That's a result of our 2018 cap pressure not his worth in my view.

Who's gonna do the tough stuff inside against the bigger stronger midfields?
I can see him having a ball with Worsfolds running, play on, game plan though. He's got the legspeed quick reflexes and skill to execute. Not sure if than plan will stay with time though, ours didn't.

Heppell, Goddard, Langford, Laverde, Stringer are all big lads

Richmond have proven that clean hands are better than big bodies anyway

Heppell does not play strong. Goddard has already retired to the back flank. Langford is a flanker. Laverde is a flanker. Stringer is a flanker.

Just find it strange how list management came up with Stringer and Smith as needs. Seems like trading for trading sake.

I'll be happy

Sooner goddard gets back on the ball and out of defence the better
We'll sacrifice the contested game and look to win using pace and clean ball use
Smith, stringer, saad, watts - linked to all 4 and they all fit that ethos.

As does looking to play more games at the G.
Just gotta keep away from the SCG during finals :)

Smith will replace Colyer in the best 22. Colyer in many games has a negative impact on our side. Smith is a huge upgrade.

Stringer will likely take Green's role in the side, with some midfield rotations. Stringer is a big upgrade on Green. Langford has been developed as a mid all year. Laverde will go the same route this coming off season. Begley will also probably end up as an inside mid.

Of course if a big-bodied inside mid was available, we'd be looking at him before anyone else, but there aren't any available at the moment.
Adam Saad would replace McGrath off half back as he moves into the midfield.
I wouldn't be surprised if we also make a play for Miles.

If Laverde and Langford do come on as the mids that we need them to be next year, then I can see it work very well for us. They'll likely replace Myers and Watson who weren't great this year to be blunt and we still made finals with them.

Nup

Smith will replace Watson in the best 22 and will play predominantly midfield. He will rotate through the forward line with Fantasia and a few Tippa minutes. Not sure when Green will be back from his foot but Begley will get first crack at that I would have thought.

Stringer is an interesting one. I expect we will use him as an impact midfielder rotating through the forward line, but what it will allow us to do is to have a forward line with four rotating talls:

- Stringer who can play goal square, high forward or midfield
- Hooker who can play goal square, ruck, or go back and help down back (was an AA backman)
- Stewart who can play high forward, CHF or ruck
- Joey who can play goal square, CHF or ruck

If Essendon gets both Smith and Stringer it will make sense because Essendon will in effect have a rotating forward/midfield, Smith is an upgrade for Colyer/Watson and Stringer is an upgrade for Green, also we need to remember that at anyone time one or two players will miss through injury.

Borrowed from the above post

- Stringer who can play goal square, high forward or midfield
- Hooker who can play goal square, ruck, or go back and help down back (was an AA backman)
- Stewart who can play high forward, CHF or ruck
- Joey who can play goal square, CHF or ruck

Then add Zaka, Parish, McGrath and ZMerrett plus the likes of Smith & Stringer & Walla & Fantasia etc all of a sudden it starts to look more dangerous.

Smith and 23 for 11? Seems like everyone only has 2018 picks to deal us and we are already down 1000 points this year. Dont think the 3 leaving bringing in 2018 picks will work out for us with the recent academy changes.

There's a few teams with multiple first rounders this year, maybe one can be tempted to trade for two 2018 picks in the 20s?

Bomber ....Stringer and Smith .
Surly they will need to trade out a player to make this happen .

Not at all. Have plenty of currency without offloading wanted player/s.

Knowing their list manager they will probably expect pick 3 for Heath Hocking.

Don't be ****ing stupid.

A late first rounder is fine.
