This thread is disgusting.

Full of salty dogs fans angry about not getting pick 11 and full of salty north fans who are just angry about not getting anything this year.

Let the erudite, amicable and mature discussion between Giants and Essendon supporters proceed unhindered please.

Good deal for Essendon...with the extra future second round pick as well they can really improve their depth in the coming years.

Likely to palm off pick 24 for Saad anyway so getting Smith, Saad and a later pick upgrade essentially for pick 11.

Going on about dodgy knees due to 1 injury is. Your comment basically stated due to that 1 injury he was stuffed for the future.

Should we discuss Boyd and his heart?

It’s a possibility that they are stuffed and happy to discuss Premiership hero Toyd is that’s a phrase no one ever thought they would hear when you drafted him.
I know you just can’t get over it can you?

Decent deal all around.

Looking at this draft, and pick 24 could, if things fall their way, end up a decent pick. There seems to be about 7-8 tier 2 prospects (with no real tier 1), then about 10-12 tier 3 prospects. If the top 7-8 play out as expected, and a couple of the next tier slide, then there really might not be very much between the player drafted at 11 and 24.

Or, if someone in the top 7-8 slides, and the next tier all get snapped up as planned, GWS could get a star, and Essendon miss this year's crop completely. Then, if Smith's injuries don't come good, Essendon look a bit silly.

All up, I'd say its a fair deal. GWS have played it safe, Essendon take the risk and get the better assets on paper as a result. Well done to both teams for working it out quickly and fairly too

I wouldn't say Smith's season was bad. Or in anyway worse than Stringers to be honest.

Roughly the same number of marks, inside 50s, goal assists and score involvements
Spent more time than Stringer as a mid i'll add
averaged 5 tackles a game (something we need)
Stringer got 9 extra goals

All in the same amount of games.

Given our preferred style of play, Smith is a great fit.
Strong running mid who is a goalkicker. That last part we struggle with from our midfield.

We did better out of this trade with 11 than we would have with the Dogs.
We should be able to land Saad through it.
Hopefully, the two clubs find middle ground on Stringer and everyone can walk away somewhat satisfied.

I don’t recall saying Stringers season was any good. In fact he had been pretty crap for two years now but is someone with enormous upside if ever he decides to stop pissing his talent away.

Yep. Or a Hunter Clark or Constable.

For them, Pick 11 was perfect to land a bigger midfielder they actually need to complement their very good youth core.

They're rushing imo.
The guys we are targeting are in the 23 year old range who will have 7-9 years of good footy left. We can go after a ready made midfielder next year or possibly draft one. Inside midfielders come on pretty early as well so we don't need to wait for them to develop.

Per Terry Wallace on SEN, by the points system, the deal is effectively pick 55 in this year's draft for Devon Smith.

Incidentally, he said, using the same points system, the Dees picked up Lever for pick 4 in this year's draft.

Not really sure that it means all that much.

The flaw in Wallace argument is he guessing what player get Adelaide will get for that pick next year.

What if the said player turns out to be the next “Dangerfield”

Plough is a fool lives off the title of List Manager ..........After destroying Richmond’s List he should be hiding.

What a fraud , biggest self promoter in football.

No, he clearly outlined that assumption of ladder position. He clearly qualified his statement with that flaw clearly disclosed.

He basically did the maths based on the father son points system. And the maths confirms general consensus,Adelaide got the better of the lever deal and Essendon got the better of the smith deal.
