Devon Smith, by a fair margin. Ellis is an outside seagull who can get quite a bit of ball but has a poor contested side of his game. Smith is shaping as a great small forward/mid. Has a good all round game.

Wow people underrate Ellis badly, nominated for AA and will be a star of the game in 2 or 3 years.
Hard to say. The above posters are correct in saying that Ellis is incredibly outside but is that really an issue. Ellis has a massive tank, a long penetrating kick and is strong overhead which to me sounds like a perfect wingman. However Devon Smith is an awesome prospect who regularly hits the scoreboard and has a bit of **** about him that I really enjoy.

Well the only competition ellis has is Martin, Cotchin, Miles, Deledio & possibly 60+ gamer during Cats successful era Taylor Hunt
Ellis is a good player but he suffers from the fact that he is so overrated by supporters of his own club that he becomes underrated by the supporters of others

Not sure. Maybe it is Smith. Haven't seen enough of him. Ellis is certainly being underrated by the usual anti-Collingwood/Richmond/Essendon supporters.
Not a surprise that most of the posters who have taken swipes at Ellis have been interstaters or Vic minnows.

Richmond, collingwood and essendon players are the ones who are constantly overrated. The 'minnow' clubs as you like to put them are the teams who's players are constantly underrated. Fact
Obviously it's not a fact as nearly all posts in this thread have NOT rated Ellis who is a Richmond player.
Yes, there is a movement that you obviously belong to which underrates any Richmond Ess or Pies player just because he or she plays for one of those clubs.
It's endemic.
See cotchin threads; would be the best player at St Kilda, North, GWS Brisbane Melb and arguably even Adelaide yet he is rated as a shit player.

No they wouldn't. They would receive the same treatment that Swan has received and Beams received. They would be rated as overrated because they played for Collingwood and would be shit because the best tagger takes Pendlebury.

Ellis has been better early on in their career. I do think Smith will have a better career as he builds his tank and moves into the middle more. He's silk, and is deadly in front of goal. Ellis will be an A grader as well though, so not too fussed..

Pretty quickly chose Ellis, wasn't surprised to see his name in the AA squad of 44. He will be just a bit better than Smith. Definitely early in his carrer
