You're trying very hard to establish a comparison between Dew and Teague's situation to point out the hypocrisy of the media criticising Carlton for their handling of Teague's sacking.

Unfortunately there isn't a comparison there given Gold Coast has given Dew twice the amount of time and resources Carlton afforded Teague, and our CEO and Dew are both on record that he will be at the club in 2022. If he turns it around next year then obviously he'll keep his job, but asking the question of the best coach of the modern era when he's uncontracted is just doing our due diligence.

Again, relevant in Carltons position but not in Dew's.

Teague has a decent record for a coach in his first two years. It's not unrealistic to think he may have been on the right path with Carlton and that you jumped the gun.

Dew has a worse coaching record (23.1%) than Brendan Bolton (25.6%) and that's with two different waves of assistants assisting him including having Neil Craig help oversee him this season. He's also getting now a 3rd wave of assistants and club officials coming in to help next season which is far more than Teague ever had.

He'll get one more year, but I suspect unless he can have at least a 50% win rate in 2022 then there is no chance he makes it through to 2023.

This is going over old news, but I always wondered why the AFL didn't create the new GC team out of the Southport Sharks. Even now, they still have the chance to get Southport onboard. A quick name change is not so bad. GC Sharks. New jumper, new management and the seconds can play in the VFL as the Southport Sharks (i.e. in the same manner as Footscray)

Then they would have a social club, a history and some members.

Not true. Port Adelaide were secretly negotiating with the AFL to join the national competition for the 1991 season. The AFL had every intention to make Port the first SA team to join the AFL but Mike Sheahan broke the story mid-season which led to the SANFL taking legal action and preventing Port from joining the AFL. Not long after the SANFL created the Crows bid and the rest is history. Had the story remained a secret, Port Adelaide would have joined the AFL in 1991.

Southport actually submitted a bid in 1996 in an attempt to gain league entry ahead of Port Adelaide but they failed as the AFL were desperate to have two teams in SA at the time. However, the AFL Chief Executive back then commented that Southport's bid left him with the impression that the next expansion side would come from the Gold Coast and we now know that to be true. Southport responded to the rejection by winning four consecutive QAFL flags between 1997-2000 which was capped off with QLD's first and only number 1 draft pick Nick Riewoldt coming through Southport's pathway. Southport tried to gain entry again in 2004 when they attempted to convince the Melbourne Demons to move permanently to the Gold Coast and merge with them but were unsuccessful.

Ultimately, Southport had its fingerprints all over what would eventually become the successful GC17 bid team. Long-time Southport President Dr Alan Mackenzie was heavily involved as a board member with the GC17 bid and the Sharks signed a multi million dollar 10-year sponsorship with the Gold Coast bid team. So although Southport didn't enter the AFL in 2011, they are a huge reason why the Suns exist.

I think the AFL learnt their lesson with all the struggles Port Adelaide had in their early years. Port tried to become something they weren't by becoming the "Power", wearing predominantly teal and distancing themselves from their illustrious history. It alienated their fanbase and resulted in low crowd numbers, memberships etc. Would Southport have gone down the same road had they entered the AFL? They would have at least changed their name (Gold Coast Sharks presumably) and colours because black and white is already taken and they could forget about acknowledging their Southport Magpies history as Port Adelaide supporters know all too well. The issues associated with Southport entering the AFL were multifactorial and the distain towards them at the local level was just one of many potential problems.

Problem with Dew is that he is overweight and doesn't look professional at all. Sure it's only appearance, however, you demand discipline and professionalism then you need to lead by example.

The best thing he can do during the offseason is get the fitness guys at the club to get him to work his arse off.
