Can't remember India's over rate being all that slow, they had to stop for seagulls a few times which didn't help.

Losing Dhoni wouldn't be the worst thing for them though, has been terrible as a captain and batsman in this series.

Parthiv Patel your time is now.

if i recall correctly, i think he was charged for the team's slow over rate during the away series against the windies (june or july 2011?)

i believe a second offence within 12 months then means an automatic suspension
I think it's his third offense, he got done in England as well.

India sent down 76 overs in 362 minutes in the only innings they bowled in at the WACA ground. There were allowances made for the 10 wickets they took and other interruptions for movement behind sight screen and injury timeouts, but India were still found short.

Dhoni pleaded guilty, and said he was aware of the regulations. He was fined 40% of his match fees, and the rest of the team was docked 20% each. This was India's second over-rate offence in the last 12 months. Dhoni had been on notice after India were found short in Barbados in June-July last year.
Cricinfo. Given he pleaded guilty and knew it'd mean an automatic penalty you'd assume there'll be no appeal.

They mentioned in the radio commentary that Australia were significantly faster between overs. I wonder if word of this had any effect on that.

patel is not in the squad, saha is their back up keeper. has played a few tests before. but wouldnt be surprised if india flew dinesh karthik out here - is a keeper but has also been picked a few times in the same side as dhoni as a frontline batsmen

Sitting watching the test last night my wife found herself in front of the TV with Gohli and Dravid batting reasonably well for a change. As an avowed non cricket lover she said "aren't India getting flogged in every game? Why don't they just go home". never laughed so much in 2012. Maybe they will now do that

Might be dhoni's last test, certainly should be his last as skipper.

I really don't think this helps us anyway, sehwag will be a far more aggressive skipper and dhoni certainly wasn't helping the batting on this tour.

Warner should be charged for his brutal assault on the Indian team :D

Seriously though, the slow over rate had no impact on the game. Think it's a bit harsh.
yes true, even with the slow over rate of india, the match barely managed to scrape its way to the half way point of the designated 5 days. so yes a bit harsh to cop a suspension but i guess the rules are pretty black and white for a repeat offense

remember when the ICC tried to do that to Viv Richards in the 80's because the Windes would only bowl 70 overs in a day? He told them when you can schedule a team agaisnt us that could last 5 sessions at bat, we'll stop dragging the games out for you.

Well he did plead guilty so hopefully that means we won't have to put up with threats of going home, probably a blessing for India to be honest. Says Dhoni was kept informed about the slow over rate throughout the innings but obviously didn't worry. The best bit is probably that they all lose 20% of the match payment, they don't deserve a cent(except for Kohli) for that pitiful performance.

This is school yard shit. One person does something wrong and everyone gets 20% of their match fees taken away?!

I guess it was more than one person messing up, but that would still piss you off.

Probably, massive sooks that they are.

What they don't realise is that this is a good thing for them. Provided that they have another keeper out here (do they?) Maybe Dravid can keep.
In the spirit of goodwill between the two sides, I'd be more than happy if Australia loaned its keeper to India for the final test.

We could even consider making the arrangement an ongoing one.

:)

Part of me cannot help but think that a player getting banned as a result of a slow over rate in a test that was over in 2.5 days is harsh.
I don't see how it's relevant, and I hope this is the start of them getting serious about cracking down on this kind of thing.

Not really, its the whole team who causes the over rates to be slow, not the captain

The reason they are slow is because The Indian Cricket team have never been great athletes,,then you take into the equation the age of their great players.

Tendulkar age 39
Dravid age 39
Laxman age 38
Sehwag age 34
Z.Khan age 34

With a population of nearly 1.3 Billion, it makes you wonder.,!
