Yes he had a right to an explanation. And he was given one yet continued to carry on like the proverbial.
Can u imagine if that was Ponting shoving his finger repeatedly in the chest of an umpire? My god, he would've been slaughtered in the press today.
wasn't a good look, that's for sure. but let's not make too much of it. i recall slater doing much worse with umpire venkat during that epic 2001 series, and remarkably escaped any sanction whatsover
what im kind of confused of is the sequence of events:
- dhoni gets a charge a few months ago, and issued a warning (with the threat of a ban should he re-offend within 12 months)
- another charge during the recent test series, and is fined and banned for 1 test
- then, just a few weeks later, is charged AGAIN yet only receives 1 game ODI penalty (plus fine)
my point being, shouldn't the penalties get progressively worse with each repeat offence? surely the suspension of 1 test match is worth say 3-4 ODI games? anyway its good that action has been taken given his track record, but a tiny fine and only 1 ODI ban in the grand scheme of things is a pretty minimal punishment
