MS Dhoni has been suspended for one ODI and India fined for the team's second over-rate breach in ODIs in less than a year. India were found to be two overs short during their 110-run defeat against Australia in Brisbane, after time allowances were taken into consideration. Match referee Andy Pycroft also fined Dhoni 40% of his match fee and the team's other players were fined 20% each.

If you were getting $2m for six weeks work, and had one billion people telling you you were a god every five minutes, you'd find it hard to give a shit about cricket too.

I remember Bishen Bedi saying at the very start that IPL wasn't good for India because its players would not care about other forms of cricket but he was howled down because he's basically an Indian Neil Harvey.

Turns out he might be right.

Shouldve been suspended for sticking his finger in the chest of Billy Bowden anyway when they pressed the wrong 3rd umpire button yesterday. What on earth could he have been complaining about - it was clearly not out? And even if he was unhappy with the decision, since when are players allowed to treat umpires like that?

It was bound to happen. Between being suspended once for poor over rates then having shocking ones again, having a spat at the umpires and taking a slight injury it was an easy call.

If i remember the issue was that the team bowling first would lose overs for bowling slow while the team bowling second would of course only face a fine if they bowled just as slow.

aw, I dunno. I think he was right to be a bit pissy with the Hussey decision.

- Dhoni thought he had him for sure and celebrates thusly
- Dhoni is confirmed to be right by the screen saying "out" and proceeds to celebrate again
- Dhoni sees Hussey being chased after by the umpires and brought back
- Dhoni goes "WTFmate?!" to the umpires asking for an explanation as to why they have to get hussey out again. he had a right to be pissed.

Yes he had a right to an explanation. And he was given one yet continued to carry on like the proverbial.

Can u imagine if that was Ponting shoving his finger repeatedly in the chest of an umpire? My god, he would've been slaughtered in the press today.

wasn't a good look, that's for sure. but let's not make too much of it. i recall slater doing much worse with umpire venkat during that epic 2001 series, and remarkably escaped any sanction whatsover

what im kind of confused of is the sequence of events:

- dhoni gets a charge a few months ago, and issued a warning (with the threat of a ban should he re-offend within 12 months)
- another charge during the recent test series, and is fined and banned for 1 test
- then, just a few weeks later, is charged AGAIN yet only receives 1 game ODI penalty (plus fine)

my point being, shouldn't the penalties get progressively worse with each repeat offence? surely the suspension of 1 test match is worth say 3-4 ODI games? anyway its good that action has been taken given his track record, but a tiny fine and only 1 ODI ban in the grand scheme of things is a pretty minimal punishment

Sorry, show me where he repeatedly jabbed his finger into the chest of an umpire there? I see him animatedly discussing the decision with the umpire but no aggressive type finger poking. And even then when he didnt, a lot was made about it both on Ch 9 at the time and in the media the following days. Yet we have hardly heard about Dhoni apart from a slow over rate.
