wasn't a good look, that's for sure. but let's not make too much of it. i recall slater doing much worse with umpire venkat during that epic 2001 series, and remarkably escaped any sanction whatsover

what im kind of confused of is the sequence of events:

- dhoni gets a charge a few months ago, and issued a warning (with the threat of a ban should he re-offend within 12 months)
- another charge during the recent test series, and is fined and banned for 1 test
- then, just a few weeks later, is charged AGAIN yet only receives 1 game ODI penalty (plus fine)

my point being, shouldn't the penalties get progressively worse with each repeat offence? surely the suspension of 1 test match is worth say 3-4 ODI games? anyway its good that action has been taken given his track record, but a tiny fine and only 1 ODI ban in the grand scheme of things is a pretty minimal punishment
In this case they are two different sports. He is missing a game because he got a warning in the wc odi final, not from the tests.

How on earth did the umpires come to the conclusion that they were only 2 overs behind? Thought the commentators said that they finished more than 30min behind schedule? That would equate to being more than 5 overs behind the required rate.

Cricinfo said they were 5 behind.

but then they take out concessions for the Hussey Incident, other 'australian' time wasting oppourtunities and the fact that it was a hot day so more drinks breaks, it comes back down to 2 overs....

All of that is taken into account when adjudging penalties for slow over rates. It's true batsmen use up time as well, but it doesn't detract from the fact Dhoni keeps getting his sums wrong. He's arrogant and refuses to learn ... the perfect recipe for an Indian cricket captain.
