Did anyone actually rate Chapman

He was on the fringe for a couple of years. He struck me as a hard at it type of player who, maybe, had limited ability and confidence but would always battle hard for a game. He played the final against Hawthorn in 2000.

The 'defining game' I think for Chappy was in Round 9, 2002 against the Dogs.
Yes Chapmagic , I remember that game , He always seems to do well against the Bulldogs , The following year when he started to really come into his own he had some really top games against them also , think he was best on ground aginst them that year in round 1

Remember that game at TD - and all I really remember is Chappy playing near or at Full Forward......oh and Crawford doing an absolute number on us. iirc he was one of our better players that day - and the only reason I rember him is because he made me take notice and think that he would be very very good.

Another close loss to Hawthorn :(

I always liked him cos he played against my mates in u18's (maybe earlier) and single handedly tore their entire team to shreds. They were a crap team, but it was still an awesome display. When Geelong drafted him, my mates were like "that's the guy who slaughtered us" so I kept a slightly biased eye on him.
I remember his break out game against the dogs, was on the wing with my boss of the time and his old man (dogs supporters) and we all agreed that chappers was gonna be a gun after that game. Didn't realise that he would be quite as good as he now is, but I love him, Jimmeh and Psycho Rooke, cos they are all hard as nails.

I was going to post the exact same thing. He really stood out to me that night too.

back in the early days chapmans job was make sure g ablett jr(before he was old enough to get a car license) ,got to training on time, but now they are two f***ing guns and can drive them selfs to training ,thats if gazza doesn't run of petrol on the way to training

I was actually thinking about this a couple of weeks ago, what number was Chapman taken in the draft? He is in the top 10 players in the comp when he is fully fit, never stops trying.

Pick 31 in 1999!
Which we'd gained after trading Michael Mansfield to Carlton.

Was surprised when Chappy was selected for the Hawthorn EF in 2000, thinking Simon Arnott would've been a safer bet considering he'd kicked 3 against them earlier in the season in his third last appearance for the club. I'll confess I paid little attention to Chappy's skill level, crediting only his hard approach to the game. That certainly changed after a beautiful no-look check-side kick to a leading Gazza against the Bombers. Hunt could've been wearing a garter belt and my eyes still would've been on Chapman for the remainder of that game.

Another early memory of Chapman for me was the famous game against Carlton in 2002. Need a goal with 26 seconds left, ball up, Carlton looks like they will gain possession, then Chapman flies in off the square and creates a turnover.

Won us the game.

Funny story - back in 01 I think it was, my brother and I bought my old man Chappy's jumper from the team of the century game against hawthorn. Bought it coz Dad always went on about Billy Goggin and it was cheap at the time. Anyway, it was a surprise present. When we gave it too him, his first words were - You got Jussa (Murphy), Matt got White (Mitchell) and I get this Chapman dud. Thanks guys......

A few years on and well, you know the rest... Kept asking Dad if he wanted to swap now, but for some reason he was happy to keep his......
