I was walking home from West Footscray station tonight when I saw three girls in front of the new basketball court shed thing they built at whiten oval. I didn't think much of it until there was a scream and two of the girls ran off. I ran over to the girl they left behind. She was on the ground but looked okay. She said they had stolen her money and pulled her hair and kicked her while she was on the ground. I walked her home to make sure she was okay. I told her to ring the police and make a report but she said it was too late. I told her it wasn't and she should call them. The girls that robbed her where young, probably teenagers.
Im a female that walks alone a lot but this is the first time I've ever experienced this situation so much question is. Did I do enough to help her? Should I have gone over and helped her when the girls where harrassing her? I just feel like I didn't do enough to help her. Should I ring the police and let them know what happened ?

I feel stressed. I really am worried about this girl, she is an international student and it angers me that she now won't feel safe because two cowards.

Sounds like you didn't know anything was suss until the scream, which you responded to anyway, so don't beat yourself up about it. Forget crimestoppers - go into the police station and be prepared to sit for an hour while they get to you. It's worth it.

If a person sees that trouble MIGHT be about to happen, a loud shout to show them they're being watched can make attackers abort...seclusion is why they're at an isolated shed in the first place. Of course, these were two girls...a gang of big guys is a different matter...!

And you - get some walking company, whether it's mates or just a well-known route where people are around at certain times...

You absolutely did enough, and more than most would do. I assume that the police took a statement from you.

I agree you should get a walking companion, walking alone at night, esp. in some areas, can be very iffy.

She'd be happy to know that there are people around who help others who get in those situations. Unfortunately these things happen a lot when people see someone who they think is a weak target. you said you went over there to help as soon as you thought something was wrong, so you did more than enough just with that act..:thumbsu:

It's always a tricky situation because as normal human beings, we have the urge to help immediately. However, sometimes it can lead to you being harmed also.

I think you did enough, but it's always sad to see something like that happen.

You're obviously a very good person, your guilt proves this. Unfortunately these things happen, and sometimes there's nothing you can do. From what I've read, it seems you've done all you could.

about a year ago i was walking to get some brekky down acland street, walked past an ice cream store, heard what i first thought was a bloody loud alarm goin off, looked in and saw a guy robbing the store and there was a young international student screaming her guts out for help

i yelled at the bloke, he booked it and ran out of the store, i had this weird scuffle with him and then he took off, i started chasing him, looked back to see if the girl was ok, looked back saw him on the other side of the road and he took off

cops came asked me the usual questions, i was pretty onto it with the cops, been dealing with them in clubs for a decade so know how to handle them when they are reporting to an incident

week later, went in did the sketch artist thing LOL, its now done via photoshop, got pretty close to a match

few months later got a call asking if i'd come in, told em id moved interstate, went to the local cop shop, they gave me think 8 pics to choose from, BANG saw the guy

problem solved :thumbsu:

im all up for the odd shifty, but **** preying on the weak

I live there for a year.
What is supposedly wrong with the suburb?
Nothing, it's just an inside joke regarding a certain poster who lives there who never fails to mention that he lives there in his posts :p. Can't remember his username unfortunately. I live fairly close to that area too and it's pretty nice tbh.
